35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[a]
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Vs 35: who shall separate us from the Love of CHRIST? I capitalise the word ‘Love’ here because the Love of CHRIST is not ordinary. For CHRIST to Love you is the greatest privilege ever. Why should GOD Love mere men like us? Furthermore, to Love CHRIST is a privilege. We are privileged to have been predestined to be among the ‘Brethren’ of CHRIST- Romans 8: 29. What does the ‘Love of CHRIST’ mean in this context?
The Love of CHRIST means several things. First, our dedication to CHRIST and doing HIS Will. Second, our commitment towards being a good ambassador of CHRIST on earth (Is 61: 6). Third, our trusting GOD without reserve. Without conditions attached. Fourth, loving our neighbours as much as we love ourselves. Finally, our Loving GOD with the whole of our bodies, hearts, souls and minds.
The Love of CHRIST also means that CHRIST Himself will never stop Loving us despite our spiritual condition. HE Loves sinners. However, you must not ignore HIM when HE comes knocking on the door to your heart.
…shall trouble, hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger or sword separate us from the Love of CHRIST? The answer is no. What about you?
Vs 36: it had been written that for the sake of CHRIST, HIS Disciples face death all day long. They are treated as sheep to be slaughtered.
It was not just in those days that Christians faced persecution. It is the same now. As for physical attacks, think of the recent Al Shabab attacks in Garissa, Kenya, on Christian students. What about the slaughter and persecution of Christians in Syria? Andso much for.
There are also the invisible battles that Christians face. First, we as Christians have GGA (Gloriously GOD-Appointed) destinies. And every GGA destiny is bound to be contested by the devil, as is a good vision. That’s what makes us special on earth. Second, the devil is simply not happy that we are saved and have been empowered over him. He’s certainly not happy that we have been delivered from his strongholds if fear, sin and ignorance (his three greatest weapons against Christianity and humanity). These battles can only be fought and won by the WORD. The Bible says when the devil comes like a flood the HOLY SPIRIT shall raise a great Standard against him that will leave the devil stumbling back to the pit of hell. The HOLY SPIRIT lives constantly in our lives as long as we have the WORD ALWAYS in our souls and hearts. Another way of fighting invisible battles is to engage in Biblical mysteries. For example, the Holy Communion, Anointing Oil, Blood of Sprinkling, Feet washing, etc. They are all in the WORD. More on invisible battles is coming soon.
Vs 37: despite the visible and invisible battles we face as Christians, we are more than Conquerors through CHRIST JESUS who loved us.
CHRIST fought and won the greatest battle ever. The battle of supremacy between GOD and the devil. HE now possesses the keys to death and hades. The devil is never going to get it back. Moreover, HE has given us everything that we need to live and conquer in this world. HE has conquered the devil and the world on our behalf. HE has given us everything we need for life and Godliness (2 Peter 1: 3-4). Thus, we cannot afford to allow the devil get into our lives. We cannot afford to break the hedge by sinning, and allow the serpent to bite. We cannot allow the devil to capitalize on sin, ignorance or fear in our lives.
Vs 38-39: death, life, angels, demons, present, future, powers, height, depth, and anything else in creation CANNOT SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF CHRIST.
POWERFUL. No matter what; no matter the odds, nothing should ever separate us from the Love of CHRIST. Even where the unexpected happens- e.g. a loved one dies young- it should not separate you from the Love of CHRIST. For it is not GOD’s Fault that it happened. Or maybe GOD has a greater Plan for his/her or your life. Moreover, the appeal of living a good life should not make us forget that we are Ambassadors of CHRIST on earth. We should never allow the things of the world to get in the way.
Demon, powers and everything in creation SHOULD NEVER GET IN THE WAY WITH GOD. Even if you grew up serving demons and powers or ancestors, you cannot serve GOD and them together. Thus, get them out of the way in your heart. Your heart should be exclusively for AWESOME JEHOVAH. You should not even be scared of them. The only person you should dread is AWESOME JEHOVAH Himself (Isaiah 8: 13-14). May the LORD bless the study of HIS WORD, and may it produce good fruit in our lives. Amen.
GOD bless you all ♥♥♥
