Good day People of GOD.

Today we will be looking at Romans 12: 3, where Paul implores us to be humble, and not think of ourselves more highly than we ought to.

‘For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you (NIV)’

Paul admonishes us not to think of ourselves higher than we ought. We should rather be sober in thinking about ourselves according to the measure of faith GOD has given us.

This is so important it hurts. Remember the rich fool who was blessed enough to plant and reap a great harvest. Instead of glorifying Awesome GOD for HIS Goodness, he was ascribing the glory to himself. He was thinking of himself with pride, rather than with humility. He forgot that it was even a privilege in the first place to get the seeds to plant in the first place. And that he was so blessed to plant and reap plenty. This is why GOD made that day his last day on earth (Luke 12: 13-21). He surely was not a good student of the Bible. He obviously did not remember Exodus 33:19 which says that GOD will have Mercy on whom HE will have Mercy on. Thus, good things in life do not depend on man’s desire or effort (Romans 9: 16).

It is important to be grateful to GOD for whatever goal or height you have attained in life. In the first place, it is by GOD’s Awesome Grace that you are alive. Many destinies are rotting away in the cemetery. This is not your fate because GOD has Chosen to have Mercy on you. It is also not because we are holy or righteous. Moreover, even if you have not exactly attained the height or goal you desire at the moment, it is even by GOD’s Awesome Grace that you are where we are today.

Awesome JESUS says that ‘Blessed is the meek, for they shall inherit the earth’ (Matthew 5: 5). Also, the earth is the LORD’s Footstool (Isaiah 66: 1).  All the silver and gold belongs to Awesome GOD. Only the meek shall inherit the gold and silver and wealth that belongs to GOD. GOD values humility in a person. Wise king Solomon says that ‘Pride comes before a fall’ (Proverbs 16: 18). When you reflect on your achievements or status in life, you should glorify GOD for the privilege to be have what you have.

According to a article,

It’s hard to be humble, especially in a world that pushes “branding yourself”, competition, and fame. A world where legitimately changing your mind is labeled “flip-flopping” and refusing to change it no matter what is labeled “principled.”

There are two reasons why it is healthy and good to be humble:

  • You recognize that you are human and imperfect. And you make mistakes. So you don’t try to be perfect always.
  • You acknowledge that you don’t always have all the answers, so you are flexible or dynamic.

Finally, we should think of ourselves and our achievements with fear and trembling. With humility and gratefulness to GOD in our hearts. And we will see GOD blessing us more. Proverbs 22: 4 says:

Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life (NIV).

May the LORD bless the study of HIS Awesome Word in JESUS’ Name!
