Good day People of GOD 🙂

Today we will be looking at 1Corinthians 11: 32, where Paul says that when GOD judges us, HE Disciplines us so that we would not be condemned along with the rest of the world.

Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world (NIV).

But when we [fall short and] are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined [by undergoing His correction] so that we will not be condemned [to eternal punishment] along with the world (AMP).

But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

As fathers discipline their sons out of love (Proverbs 3: 12), GOD also disciplines you out of Love when appropriate. GOD wants to raise mature children- children who are responsible, who will make HIM Proud, and will advance HIS Kingdom on earth. GOD also wants you to make Heaven eventually, and be with HIM forever. Thus, HE lets you pass through trials sometimes to prepare you for future responsibility and hone your resilience to temptation. Hebrews 12: 5- 6 says-

5And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, or lose heart when He rebukes you. 6For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastises everyone He receives as a son.”

GOD made Israel pass through the desert to hone their resistance to enemies as a people. They were never exposed, so they could not know how to defend themselves as a people because they had been slaves for 430 years. Thus, GOD had to test them to see how far they could go and train them (:). As you can see later, it was a good decision GOD made, because they were able to defend themselves and fend for themselves when Joshua led them to conquer Jericho and its environs (Joshua 5: 12). You see, soldiers are trained in times of peace, so that the nation is not destroyed when enemies strike. This is the same principle GOD works with. GOD trains you now, so that you can build your faith in HIM, your love for him, and your resistance to sin and temptation. Thus, when the enemy strikes, the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD can raise a standard against him (Isaiah 59: 19).CQhAhZdUcAAVNIP

So far, it has been established that GOD disciplines you because HE loves you. However, you should not make mistakes, or sin against GOD in the hope that HE will discipline you like a Father and be ‘soft about it’. One of the greatest prayers you can ever pray is that the HOLY SPIRIT should help you not to make mistakes that will make you subject to GOD’s Discipline. When GOD disciplines you, HE reprimands you for wrongful conduct. But, it can be really painful or disastrous. Remember king David. This man was said to be a man after GOD’s Awesome Heart. Yet, he took Awesome JEHOVAH for granted. He committed murder and adultery (2 Samuel 11). Yet, GOD forgave him absolutely. But, GOD’s Love for him did not absolve him from punishment. He paid dearly for his sins making him to think death at seventy was a good thing (Psalm 90: 10). When other people before and during his time were living far longer than 70 years. Then, Solomon came along. He was a wise king. But, he ended up making serious mistakes that resulted in the kingdom of Israel being taken from his father’s house. He married too many wives, served their gods, and drifted away from GOD (1 Kings 11: 3).

The point: DO NOT TEST GOD’S PATIENCE FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. Do not let GOD have no choice but to discipline you. My dad always says to my siblings and I that we should be humble, and not wait for GOD to humble us. When GOD humbled Nebuchadnezzar, he was living like a wild animal, and eating grass like an ox, and his body was drenched with the dew of Heaven (Daniel 4: 28-33). There are other instances in the Bible where GOD humbled people, and their stories do not sound good. A wise man will hear of other people’s stories and learn from their mistakes. So, experience is not necessarily the best teacher.  Finally, humble yourself before GOD, and serve HIM faithfully, so that HE would not have to discipline you. JESUS says in Revelation 3: 18- 19-

18I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, white garments so that you may be clothed and your shameful nakedness not exposed, and salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. 19Those I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be earnest and repent.

May the LORD bless the study of HIS Awesome Word in JESUS’ Name!

  1. This teaching is on God chastenes, disciplines and yes-“punishes” His children that continue to go wayward and not repenting scares me beyond words…If I truly repent I risk LOSING EVERYTHING–my income, my doctors, my medication and even my housing (my home!). I’m almost 63 and have miserably failed vocationally (countless times- many years ago) when I was working. Truly, during the 41 years I’ve been saved, this is the hardest, most perplexing (no way out-no way in) and most fiery🔥😦🔥trial I’ve ever been in. I’d give anything to be able to just wake up one morning and this terrible trial would be over… The Lord says: count it all😄joy when you encounter various trials. James 1:2 – –
    I have no😦joy…. I’m TOTALLY overwhelmed..
It’s ALL too much for me.
If I was young, (like 21 yrs young again) it would be different… I don’t know what to do… I’m up against a huge scary😦 wall with the Lord…
    What shall I do????

    1. Hi Greg,

I would encourage you in the LORD. The Bible says that many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him from them all (Psalm 34: 19). And it says, “Tell the righteous that it will go well for them, for they will eat the fruit of their labor (Isaiah 3: 10).” I want to encourage you to stay strong in the LORD. I do not know the details of your situation, but I want you to know that, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31: 6 NIV).” You know, “…our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all (2 Corinthians 4: 17 NIV)”. Please, receive comfort from the HOLY SPIRIT, for HE is our Comforter and Teacher (John 14: 26).

In addition, if you are not already a regular part of a church, I would like to encourage you to be part of a church, a group of believers, from where you can receive encouragement to stay strong in the LORD. Battles of life are not meant to be fought alone – this is why GOD placed us in the Body of CHRIST. “In this way we are like the various parts of a human body. Each part gets its meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around. The body we’re talking about is Christ’s body of chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of his body. But as a chopped-off finger or cut-off toe we wouldn’t amount to much, would we? (Romans 12: 4-5 MSG).

Furthermore, I would encourage you to go to GOD, declare your love for HIM and repent if need be of any sins. GOD is ever Faithful, and HE hears the prayers of the righteous, and delivers them from all their troubles (Psalm 34: 17).

Finally, I pray for you that the HOLY SPIRIT would Comfort you and your heart would be willing to receive HIS Comfort. I also pray that GOD would surround you with believers who would be able to encourage you, pray with you and give you the support you need to go through this phase.

      GOD bless you,
      Yours in CHRIST 🙂

  2. Thank you sister Oluyeju for your encouaging words. God bless you. Yes, in Psm. 34:19 the Lord reveals He eventually “delivers” us from all our afflictions-troubles. The chastening of the Lord is a scary thing (actually, I’m terrified about it!)–but it’s proof we truly are His children. God knows I don’t want Him to resort to breaking my leg for my deliverance….so I’m not condemned with the world.
In a heartbeat I would be 100% true in one area of my life to the Lord but…I fear a far worse circumstance OR future for me… I give this terrible rutt I’m in to my Savior, and “deliverer” JESUS but my consequences may be….disastrous!-😢🔥 And I’m just way too old–for this🔥to happen to.
