It is good to be back again. I have been extraordinarily busy lately, so I had to take some time off to get my act together.
Today, I just want to share a Word that has helped me in the previous weeks, which admonishes us to keep hold of the Word we have heard; to stand firm so that we do n0t drift off.
“It’s crucial that we keep a firm grip on what we’ve heard so that we don’t drift off” (MSG).
Spiritual maturity is a process. You only grow spiritually if you work hard at it, and be persistent. Spiritual growth has seasons as well – there are times when you experience a spurt of growth and there are times when you may experience ‘dryness’ or testing. However, it is important to work hard at spiritual growth, be persistent (take it one step at a time), and record your growth (in a journal or somewhere else). When you see you have made some progress spiritually, you should celebrate by giving thanks to GOD, and hope for more progress in your spiritual life.
Another interpretation of this Scripture is that you should keep a firm grip of the Word of GOD you have heard so that you do not drift off. As human beings, we are fallible, and we do forget important things! This is why you are encouraged at church to have a daily bible study schedule so that you can always study the Word. Moreover, a Yoruba saying goes, ‘Ranti omo eni ti o je’ – remember the child/Child of whom you are. Parents say this to children so that they do not forget their home training. And as Christians who are Ambassadors of CHRIST on earth, we should remember who our Father is – Awesome JEHOVAH – in every instance and situation. This way, it is easier to overcome temptation and it is easier not to fear. In Psalm 91: 5, you are commanded not to fear – so it’s a command –
‘Thou shalt not be afraid of the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day (KJV)’
Finally, hold on to the Word of GOD so that you do not drift off from GOD’s Kingdom. The LORD’s Word/Truth is your Shield and Buckler against the wiles of the enemy –
‘…his truth shall be thy shield and buckler (Psalm 91: 4 KJV)’
May the LORD bless the study of HIS Awesome Word in JESUS’ Name!
