1 Corinthians 16: 9 For a great door and effectual is opened to me, and there are many adversaries

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD🙂

Three posts ago, we started a series on distractions. This is the fourth and final part as promised. Today, we will be looking at 1 Corinthians 16: 9, where Paul speaks of open doors and how there are many adversaries he faces as a result. How does this Scripture relate to distractions?

For a great door and effectual is opened to me, and there are many adversaries (1 Corinthians 16: 9).

Distractions are a tool of the devil to distract you from GOD’s Plan for your life. Satan sometimes sends things your way to serve as a distraction when he has seen what GOD has in store for you. One prayer my parents constantly pray is: ‘We rebuke every distraction in JESUS’ Name! What we did not think of will not spoil what we are thinking of in JESUS’ Name!’ This prayer asks GOD to prevent anything that can distract HIS Plan from taking place in your life. For instance, if you suddenly fall sick before you take that great job or start grad school, won’t you use all your money and resources to take care of your health instead of focusing on excelling at your job or studies?  Another example is where someone gets into university and that is when their benefactor suddenly has an unexplained heart attack and dies. These are examples of satanic distractions. A distraction that cannot be explained in physical terms, does not make any sense, and could divert you from GOD’s Plan is a distraction from the pit of hell! May you not be diverted from GOD’s Purpose in JESUS’ Name!

d4743b365e3cc594205fdaf9b9bd016f

I know there are people who don’t believe that satan exists or that he goes after their welfare, but that’s a simplistic view. If you think that satan does not do anything, then, where do evil things and disasters come from? Everything has a basis or foundation. Evil things do not come from GOD for there is no wickedness in HIM (Psalm 92: 15). Moreover, if you believe in JESUS, and what HE says in the Bible and in HIS Ministry, you will know that the devil is on rampage, seeking whom to devour: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full (John 10: 10 NIV). Who is the thief JESUS speaks about? Moreover, why did JESUS say:

And I say also to you, That you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matthew 16: 18 AKJV).

I just had to clarify the point above because someone told me they don’t believe that distractions can come from the devil. The devil does not want you to prosper or to fulfill GOD’s Plan your life. He is doing everything to prevent that. This is why when great and effectual doors open, there are many adversaries (1Corinthians 16: 9). People say that nothing good comes easy. Why is that?

See what happened in Nehemiah 4: 1-6 (NIV):

Opposition to the Rebuilding

[a]When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews, and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, “What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble—burned as they are?”

Tobiah the Ammonite, who was at his side, said, “What they are building—even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones!”

Hear us, our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of captivity. Do not cover up their guilt or blot out their sins from your sight, for they have thrown insults in the face of[b] the builders.

So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart.

Nehemiah was rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem, along with other dedicated Jews. Sanballat and the others were very unhappy and sought to frustrate his work. They ridiculed the workers and mocked them. The point: the devil was working though Sanballat et. al., to disrupt GOD’s Work, but he failed because Nehemiah prayed for GOD’s Intervention and the work was able to go on. In the end, the Jews under Nehemiah’s leadership succeeded in rebuilding the Wall of Jerusalem in 52 days (Nehemiah 6: 15).

victory1.jpg

So, what do you do when you are facing a satanic distraction? How do you react to the works of the devil? You should react to the ‘force’ of the devil with the Force of GOD.  JESUS says: ‘And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force (Matthew 11: 12). Do not take issues like this lying low. A couple of things you can do are:

  • First, repent of all known sin.
  • Second, as the SPIRIT of GOD leads, you can fast as well as pray violent prayers using the Word of GOD, and decree your victory in JESUS’ Name. For at the mention of the Name of JESUS, every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that JESUS is LORD to the Glory of GOD the Father (Philippians 2: 10-11).
  • Third, perform praise to GOD like David did (at midnight) (Psalm 119: 62), and keep proclaiming your victory in JESUS’ Name.

Watch-and-Pray.jpg

In conclusion, one of Messages of JESUS that resonates with the Church is that we should watch and pray and watch out for the Endtime:

34But watch yourselves, or your hearts will be weighed down by dissipation, drunkenness, and the worries of life—and that day will spring upon you suddenly like a snare. 35For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36So keep watch at all times, and pray that you may have the strength to escape all that is about to happen and to stand before the Son of Man.”
As for physical distractions, ask for the Grace of GOD to help you let certain things go, so that you can move forward in GOD’s Plan for your life. Moreover, the devil is one a rampage, and is doing everything he can to fight against GOD’s Kingdom and HIS People. All sorts of strange things are happening these days. But, Greater is HE who lives in you than he in the world (1 John 4: 4). Thus, it is up to you, me, and us as the Body of CHRIST to fight back and decree our victory in CHRIST, over the devil! We have to send the arrows from the pit of hell right back to where they came from.

GOD bless you, GOD bless the Church, GOD bless HIS Coming Back. Amen.

JAMES 1: 12 BLESSED IS THE MAN WHO REMAINS STEADFAST UNDER TRIAL, FOR WHEN HE HAS STOOD THE TEST HE WILL RECEIVE THE CROWN OF LIFE, WHICH GOD HAS PROMISED TO THOSE WHO LOVE HIM

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD🙂

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him (James 1: 12 ESV)

tumblr_na51tozj7w1tcwdj7o1_500

Today, we will be looking at James 1: 12 which counsels us to remain steadfast under trial so that we may receive the Crown of Life. The broad theme is still Distractions – so this is the third part in the series dealing with distractions.

Spiritual growth is a journey, a process and a privilege. You have to work hard at it to get better at it. You cannot afford to be complacent. Paul was called by CHRIST (Acts 9: 5), but he had to work on his spiritual life to get to the point where he could challenge Peter, and at the end of his life he could say, ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4: 7 NIV).’ Powerful.

GOD has been Awesome in my life and HE brought me to where I am today, but, I have realized that my spiritual growth depends on consistency in spending time with GOD praying, studying the Bible, fasting and (making the effort to) live a righteous life. Anytime I slacked in doing any of these things, I felt like I had strayed from GOD and I had no peace. One Scripture that encouraged me to keep pressing towards the Goal is Philippians 3: 12-14 where Paul says:

12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3: 12-14 NKJV).

When you have a loved one, you would want to spend time with them, do the activities they like, and talk to them as regularly as possible, right? That is the way your relationship with GOD should be! GOD is not a scary person, or a Bad Guy or a wicked person or an unkind person. After all, HE sent HIS Only Begotten Son to die for us on the cross of Calvary, so we can have everlasting life (John 3: 16)! You might want to rethink your idea or image of GOD. The Psalmist says:

The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy (Psalm 145: 8).

keep-calm-and-get-the-crown-james-112.png

Getting back to the topic, how do you develop an intimate relationship with GOD, focus on HIM and avoid distractions? Sometimes, you have to leave everything else and go to a quiet place and spend some quality quiet time with GOD. You cannot hear GOD amidst noise and too much activity. When the HOLY SPIRIT speaks, HIS Voice is very gentle – when the HOLY SPIRIT spoke to Elijah after an earthquake, HIS Voice came like a gentle whisper (1 Kings 19: 12). GOD speaks to you through your spirit, so you have to be quiet in order to hear HIM. Moreover, JESUS’s Actions depict why we need a quiet place sometimes to hear from GOD:

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest (Mark 6: 31 NIV).

Here are some pointers on developing an intimate relationship with GOD:

  • Set a time apart for daily prayer: 20 minutes out of your twenty-four hours is not too much to spend in prayer with GOD. Morning hours are the best time to pray and communicate with GOD. See Mark 1: 35: ‘And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he [JESUS] went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed’ (NIV).
  • Set time apart for study of the Word and daily reflection: it is not enough to just read through one chapter of a couple of verses just so you can tick the box. Setting apart at least 30 minutes when you can truly meditate on the Word daily goes a long way towards building your relationship with GOD. Prioritizing you daily time goes a long way towards ensuring you fulfill your destiny on earth. You have to make time for the most important things in your daily life, else, you will be giving excuses in the future. And excuses does not get anything done, and it does not achieve dreams or goals. See Ephesians 5: 15-16: 15: ‘Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, 16 [b]making the most of your time, because the days are evil’ (NASB).

Work-out-your-own-salvation-with-fear-and-trembling.png

Finally, you have the responsibility to work out your salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2: 12). Moreover, it is a privilege to know GOD and to be Christian. So, endeavor to spend more time with GOD, get to know HIM better, improve your relationship with HIM, and see yourself fulfill your great destiny on earth. So,

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12: 1-2 NIV).

P.S. We pray that GOD will be with the people of Haiti and others hit by the Hurricane Matthew, and that HE will restore what the enemy has stolen from them in seven fold (Proverbs 6: 31), and that HE will heal and comfort all the families affected.

GOD bless you all and Peace <3.

MATTHEW 14: 28-31 DISTRACTIONS

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD🙂

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me! 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Last time, we looked at some of the physical distractions that divert people away from the goal of fulfilling their destinies. Today, we will be looking at why it is essential to avoid these distractions. May you be blessed as you read this in JESUS’ Name.

As we have seen, getting distracted is easier than staying on track. Being lazy is easier than being dedicated. But, it is essential to stay on track and be dedicated to the Call of GOD for your life on earth – in other words, your purpose on earth. There is a very interesting passage of the Bible that illustrates this point well. In Matthew 14: 28-31 (NIV):

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Peter asked JESUS to tell him to walk on the water towards HIM – that took a bit of courage in my opinion. And JESUS says, ‘Come’. Note that he actually started walking on the water, until he saw the wind, became afraid and began to sink. If he had kept his eyes focused on JESUS, and refused to be distracted by the wind, he would have continued walking on the water towards JESUS without sinking. Thus, doubt can be a big distraction.

I don’t know if you have ever engaged in stunt games like walking on a thin rope or stick high in the air. The first rule of the game is that you must look straight ahead and not look down. The moment you look down, you are going to fall. So, the same principle applies in life – life is taking a risk, daring to dream, reaching out to achieve your purpose on earth. This is why you must keep your eyes straight on the Person who created you, gave you life, and gave you that Purpose. The moment you let yourself be distracted by the wind or troubles of life, you fall. May GOD help us in JESUS Name!

a896e5196075e7d4ce98e8519d7be32e

Speaking of focusing on your Creator who have you life and Purpose, you should focus on GOD HIMSELF, not on your church or pastor or church activities just for show. If you buy a mechanical thing, like a blender collapsible bed or something that must be set up before you can use it, but you cannot figure it out, you call the manufacturer or the shop you bought it from, right? This is why your focus should be solely on your Creator.  It is very easy to fall into this trap like Martha did:

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” 41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her (Luke 10: 38 -42).”

In JESUS’s Opinion, it was OK to prepare food to entertain HIM. That was essentially Kingdom Service. But, it should not be at the expense of your hearing the Word of GOD, and your spiritual growth! It is possible to get distracted by Christian projects and doing things ‘for GOD’, that you stop spending quite time with GOD in prayer, in the Word, and lose your zeal for HIM. JESUS alludes to this in Revelation 2: 3-4 when HE says:

3 You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. 4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first (NIV).

This is why it is not a good idea to be doing ‘Kingdom Service’ while the sermon is going on at church, unless there is another service you can attend where you will pay full attention to it. So, when you put your focus on GOD, it must be solely on HIM, so that HE can lead and instruct you in the way you should go, and guide and watch over you (Psalm 32: 8).

784993776f1e2f10d58fdf58c794709a

Finally, all that glitters is not gold. Somethings look so attractive, but they are not GOD’s Will for your life and destiny. This is where the Guidance of the HOLY SPIRIT comes in, to guide and lead you in the way that you should go (Psalm 32: 8). Paul speaks of those things that are good but are not necessarily beneficial and some of these distractions are like that:

“I have the right to do anything,” you say–but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”–but not everything is constructive (1 Corinthians 10: 23 NIV).

It is crucial to be vigilant and sober because the devil walks about as a roaring lion seeking whom to devour (1 Peter 5: 8), and likes to throw things in your path that will distract you from where you are going. So, submit to GOD; resist the devil and he will flee from you (James 4: 7).

LUKE 9: 62 DISTRACTIONS

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD 🙂

“Anyone who lets himself be distracted from the work I plan for him is not fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62 TLB).

Today I just want to share something about distractions that I think prevent people from fulfilling GOD’s Plan for their lives.

There are two types of distractions: physical distractions and satanic distractions. Physical distractions are those that are of a physical nature and those you just have to make up your mind to let go. Satanic distractions on the other hand are those that are of a spiritual nature, and require that you be spiritually vigilant and prayerful to avoid. This a series that will have four parts and I hope you will be blessed as we walk through the distractions that stand in the way of fulfilling GOD’s Plan together.

It is such a great privilege to be a Christian, and I wonder sometimes how my life would have been if I am not Christian. I would not have been alive today, I would not have been where I am now, I would have been very depressed and sad, and I would have missed out on so much of life. Running the race of destiny fulfilment is a tough one, but it takes the Grace of GOD and spiritual vigilance (being watchful and prayerful) to conquer the plans of the enemy. GOD is the Driver of the Car of your destiny; the Captain of the Ship of your destiny. But, when you start to take over this role from GOD or you stop following HIM, you lose sight of the Goal, and you end up in sin, depression, spiritual death, missed blessings, among other bad things.

distractions-1

When you lose sight of GOD – your Captain, fear and worry start to trouble you. GOD has promised that HE will lead and guide you in the Way that you should go (Psalm 32: 8). But, if you refuse to let HIM guide you, you will go the wrong way and get lost. That will not be your portion in JESUS’ Name. Paul says:

I’m saying this for your benefit, not to restrict you. I’m showing you how to live a noble life of devotion to the Lord without being distracted by other things (1 Corinthians 7: 35 GOD’S WORD Translation).

These are some of the physical distractions that I’ve found could be distracting one from GOD’s Plan. Anyone or all of them could be familiar to you. They include:

  1. People’s and worldly expectations. In relation to this, note the following Scriptures:  1 John 2: 15: 15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father[a] is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world (NIV) and Romans 12: 2: 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will (NIV).
  2. Fear of taking the wrong step or fear in general.
  3. Selfishness or self-centredness.
  4. Work (sometimes).
  5. Worry. JESUS says in Mark 4: 19 (…but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful (NIV))
  6. Lack of good sleep and exercise (if you are always tired and slow, how is GOD going to use you?).
  7. The past.
  8. Envy or jealousy.
  9. Technological advances: cell phones, social networks, TV, etc.
  10. Hobbies.
  11. Relationships (sometimes).

distractions

Why are these things distractions? They make you so busy you do not have time for the things that matter. Like Bible study, prayer, fasting, ministry, etc. And if you constantly let yourself get distracted, you cannot be useful in GOD’s Kingdom, because you would not be hearing from the LORD and would be too busy doing the wrong things! If you love someone, you would spend more time with them, and want to do activities they like right? The same principle applies in your relationship with GOD. Endeavor to spend more time with HIM and develop a more intimate relationship with HIM. That way, your heart will be totally closed off from worldly and satanic distractions that could destroy you.

Finally, what is the solution in relation to the distractions mentioned above: let them go. It is important to stay focused on CHRIST, the Pioneer and Perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12: 2). Some of these distractions serve as a ‘hide-away’ from problems. For instance, some people indulge in lots of food when they are worried; or they look to friends and family when they have problems. However, GOD has said that all the world should look to HIM for Salvation; there is only one GOD and no other (Isaiah 45: 22). If you look to something else or someone else for help or ‘salvation’ when you are stressed, you will be letting distractions overcome you.

GOD bless you and until next time!
