prayer is teh key

Good day People of GOD 🙂

Luke 6:12-19King James Version (KJV)

12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. 13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles; 14 Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew, 15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes, 16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor. 17 And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; 18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed. 19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.

What did this Scripture mean when it was written?

In the Scripture above, JESUS was just starting out on HIS Ministry. HE thus had to make the big decision of who to pick as HIS Disciples. However, even if praying all night seemed to be a regular practice of JESUS, HE also knew that GOD the Father’s Guidance was necessary, so HE prayed all night, and then picked HIS Disciples. HIS disciple candidates turned out well (even though Judas betrayed HIM – that was already prophesied by Isaiah). And then you see that from verses 17-19, JESUS was filled with so much power that people with all sorts of diseases came to be healed and made whole. HE was literally overflowing with virtue, and everyone who came to HIM for healing was healed. Praise GOD!

What is the timeless truth behind what God is saying?

This Scripture has some lessons to teach, apart from the fact that it tells us JESUS prayed all night and so on. There is that popular song that goes:

Prayer is the Key; Prayer is the Key;

Prayer is the Master Key;

JESUS started with Prayer and ended with Prayer;

Prayer is the Master Key

Indeed, Prayer is the Key. There are many Scriptures where JESUS counsels us to ask the Father and we shall receive what we ask for (Matthew 7: 7-8; John 14: 13-14; etc). Besides, did you notice the time that JESUS rose to pray? At night or before day break! This was the time HE normally rose to pray: HE prayed before HIS Baptism in the HOLY SPIRIT and before beginning HIS Ministry (Luke 3: 21-22); HE rose early in the morning before daybreak and went to a solitary place and prayed (Mark 1: 35); and just before HE was taken away to be tortured and crucified, HE prayed in what has to be in the early hours of the morning (Mark 14: 32-42), etc. finally, JESUS was a Man of Prayer, despite the fact that HE is GOD HIMSELF who was living in the form of a man on earth. I think JESUS prayed so much, and even taught us how to pray (Matthew 6: 9-13), so that we can emulate the attitude of praying.

How does it apply to me now?

‘A prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian. No man is greater than his prayer life. A Christian is greatest on his knees.’ Pastor Daniel Olukoya. There is no truer statement in this context, in my opinion. As a Christian, in order to spiritually recharge, to receive strength, to receive Divine Direction (Psalm 32: 8), to receive Wisdom (James 1: 5), to be successful in all your endeavors, prayer is the key. As Paul implores us to do, let’s: ‘16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you’ (1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18 ESV).

One other thing we should emulate as Christians is the habit of praying at Midnight or praying before daybreak. I understand that people from Pentecostal backgrounds may understand and agree with the idea of praying at midnight, than people from more orthodox backgrounds. That’s fine. As long as you pray regularly, that’s what matters.

As I illustrated above, JESUS usually prayed at midnight and before daybreak. I don’t know what you are thinking, but if JESUS usually did something while HE was on earth, it is a sign we should emulate the same practice. Why is midnight prayer crucial?

  • It is quieter. You would usually find a solitary place at midnight. David said, ‘Early will I seek [HIM] (Psalm 63: 1 KJV)’.
  • It is the best time to receive Wisdom and Divine Direction from GOD. David said ‘I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel; my reins also instruct me in the night seasons (Psalm 16: 7 KJV).
  • It is the best time to receive a Divine Visitation from GOD. David also says ‘Thou hast proved mine heart; Thou hast visited me in the night; Thou hast tried me and shall find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress (Psalm 17: 3)’. From my personal experience, I have it on authority that miracles happen at midnight.
  • Intense spiritual activities go on at midnight. Demonic powers are in full operation during the night and that is the best time to confront and conquer by the Power of the HOLY GHOST. David prays, ‘You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day…(Psalm 91: 5 NIV)’.
  • Finally, remember to pray in the SPIRIT as well: ‘Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints (Romans 8: 26 KJV)’.

Microsoft Word - Document1

In conclusion, this hymn shows us why we should always be prayerful, like no other words can:

What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer

Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised
Thou wilt all our burdens bear;
May we ever, Lord, be bringing
All to Thee in earnest prayer.

Soon in glory bright, unclouded,
There will be no need for prayer—
Rapture, praise, and endless worship
Will be our sweet portion there.

Ephesians 2:4-9 New International Version (NIV)

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

Good day People of GOD 🙂

In the Scripture above, Paul reinforces the fact that it is by the  Grace of GOD that we are saved (he mentions it twice in verses 5 and 9).

When this Scripture was written, Paul was telling the Ephesians about GOD’s Love and Mercy which is the reason they were saved. Thus, their Salvation was a Gift from GOD, gotten through Mercy, not through works so that nobody can boast. Besides, the Ephesians used to follow the ways of the world and were dead in their sin – before GOD raised them up to life with CHRIST. Therefore, anyone of them who was saved, was saved by GOD’s Grace, through her own faith.

Two things come to mind when we apply this Scripture to ourselves in this generation. First, it is a privilege for us to be saved. It is GOD’s Gift of Grace. Therefore, after we have given our lives to CHRIST, we should be proud to carry our cross and follow HIM (Matthew 16: 24). If you count it a privilege to have been chosen by GOD to know, love, and serve HIM, it would not be hard for you to carry your Cross and follow HIM. Moreover, Christianity is not just a label; it is a way of life. Thus, if anyone is surprised when you or someone else tell them you are Christian, there is a big problem.

Secondly, GOD made a HUGE Sacrifice to see us saved. We were dead in our sin; imperfect; dirty; unattractive in our sin. Yet, GOD came down in the form of a Man, and lived with us for 33 years, before HE allowed HIMSELF to be Crucified on the Cross of Calvary for the remission and atonement of our sins (Romans 3: 25). As a side note, if you always think of the Sacrifice GOD made so that we can be saved today, you will be cognizant of the fact that sinning against HIM nails JESUS back to the Cross and subjects HIM to public disgrace all over again (Hebrews 6: 6). So, let’s show GOD we’re grateful for HIS Gift of Salvation!

Therefore, the message GOD  has for us today is that:it is a privilege to be saved; a privilege to be Christian and we are only saved because of GOD’s Grace, and through our own faith. Essentially, Christianity is not just a set of beliefs; but, it is a way of life that leads to peace on earth, and joy in Heaven. For GOD so loved us (when we did not know HIM and we were sinners), that HE gave HIS Only Begotten Son – JESUS – so that when we believe in HIM, we shall have Eternal Life with GOD the Father in Heaven (John 3: 16). This is even more obvious in light of Ephesians 4: 1-6:

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved (KJV).

In conclusion, GOD chose you. HE chose me. HE chose us before we were born. And we did not do anything to deserve HIS Mercy. Whenever I think about this, it warms my heart, and makes me realize how truly blessed in CHRIST that I am to be CHRISTIAN. And I don’t hesitate to let everyone know that yes, I am CHRISTIAN. I Glorify GOD for that Privilege. All Glory belongs to GOD for HIS Faithfulness!

Good day People of GOD

Today, we will focus on giving to Caesar’s what is Caesar’s, as JESUS admonished in Mark 12: 17.

13 Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words. 14 They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax[b] to Caesar or not? 15 Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”

But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap me?” he asked. “Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.” 16 They brought the coin, and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?” “Caesar’s,” they replied.

17 Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”

And they were amazed at him (Mark 12: 13-17 NIV).

The Pharisees tried to trap JESUS, by asking HIM if they should pay the imperial tax to Caesar. And JESUS caught them – HE knew what they were about, and rightly said, ‘Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s’.

Essentially, JESUS was saying that if something is due unto someone else, you should pay them! Whether it is the state, local government or municipality, your boss, or anyone or any organization you owe money to, you should pay! Period. GOD is all about fairness. You may complain taxes are too high, but until the state does something about it, you should not evade taxes. Legal avoidance of taxes is OK, but evasion is not. Apart from the fact that this crime carries a heavy prison sentence in most states, it is not CHRIST-like to evade taxes or any charges you owe – to literally anyone. As long as you rightly owe them, and you know it, do your duty and pay them.

Now, let’s talk about bribery. Some people may quote the Scripture above as justification for bribery – they go, ‘Give to Caesar’s what is Caesar’s…’, and go ahead and offer what any reasonable person would call a bribe. This is NOT right at all. Be careful not to use the Word of GOD to justify sin or something that is morally and ethically wrong, so that you don’t get into trouble. ‘Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you (Deuteronomy 4: 2 NIV).’

What are other civic duties – giving to Caesar what is Caesar’s?

  1. Be loyal to your country: pray for your country, say positive things about it, and conduct yourself in a way that will make other nationalities respect people from your country. REGARDLESS OF WHO IS IN POWER, A MATURE CHRISTIAN WILL NEVER SAY, ‘THIS COUNTRY IS DOOMED.’ Why? If your country is doomed, you are doomed too.
  2. Volunteer to serve when called upon.
  3. Pay taxes.
  4. Obey all laws in your country whether you like the party in power or not.
  5. Register and vote at all elections.
  6. Serve on juries or statutory boards on whose platforms you can make a positive difference in local communities.

Finally, Paul in his second letter to Timothy says,

‘2 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior,… (2 Timothy 2: 1-3).

I just want to say that you would not always be happy with whoever in in power in your country – whoever GOD puts in power in your country. GOD is very involved in the affairs of men – nobody comes into power in any country, much less one that is reputed to be the most powerful economy in the world, without GOD’s Permission (notice the triple emphasis). GOD always has a Plan; and HE would not leave HIS People or forsake them. Thus, pray for whoever is in power.  Why?

  • Pray for wisdom as he/she rules the country. If your president does the right thing, the country and economy would benefit, and you would benefit too. But if he makes serious mistakes that affect the economy, you and all your family and friends will be negatively affected! This is plain common sense.
  • Secondly, pray for the Church in your country! That GOD should protect the Church and empower Christians to be a Light on a Hill; and Salt of the world. Pray that GOD should use the Church to bring Peace and Joy into the homes and lives of your countrymen, in such tense political times as this! Pray that the new Administration will favor the Church and all that matters to it. The Church refers to the People of GOD.
  • Thirdly, pray that the new Administration will favor yourself, your family and loved ones.
  • Yes, prayer is the key!

in conclusion, I speak peace and joy into your life, and I hope you take peace and joy with you everywhere you go, in JESUS’ Name!

10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. 11 So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? 12 And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own? (Luke 6: 10-12 NIV)

Can you be trusted with little? This is a big question that will only be answered honestly when you check yourself.

JESUS essentially says in the Scripture above, that until GOD sees you being faithful in the affairs of other men or that you can be trusted with little, only then will HE entrust true riches to you. And JESUS means this literally. Think about the law of reaping and sowing, ‘Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows (Galatians 6: 7 NIV)’. So, if you currently work for someone, and you steal from him, inflate your performance levels or do anything remotely dishonest, know that you shall reap what you have sown, for GOD cannot be mocked. I have heard of so many people from my home country, who after working for the government for many years could not do business of their own successfully. Why? They had been so dishonest or corrupt working for the government; the culture of taking what is not rightfully theirs is so ingrained in them, they sometimes don’t succeed in business.

Give and it shall be given unto you, JESUS says (Luke 6: 38). So also, if you do not prevent someone else from prospering by stealing from them, you will also prosper in your business when you do have one. Moreover, if GOD sees that you have been trustworthy with your boss or someone you are accountable to, GOD is the God of Justice, and HE will make sure that you are promoted in your workplace. Essentially, if you want promotion in your life: career, marriage, business, etc, GOD has to see you being trustworthy even when you have little.

Besides, in the sphere of relationships, if you are always deceiving people and leaving a trail of broken hearts in your wake, this attitude will come back to bite you. What goes around comes around, so don’t expect to be happily married at 30 for instance, when all you have done in the preceding ten years is deceive members of the opposite sex, and mess with their hearts.

Finally, whatever you are doing presently, do it very well, for you do not know who is watching. A future employer may be watching; a future spouse may be watching; GOD is watching. Thus, be trustworthy and diligent in what you are doing now, and see how GOD will reward you with true riches.

Stay blessed!

2 Samuel 15: 18-22 HOW LOYAL ARE YOU?

Good day People of GOD

Happy new year! I wish you a prosperous 2017 ahead!

Today, we will look at Loyalty and a place in the Scriptures where it is shown poignantly: 2 Samuel 15: 18-22.

18 to let all the king’s men move past to lead the way. There were 600 men from Gath who had come with David, along with the king’s bodyguard.[a] 19 Then the king turned and said to Ittai, a leader of the men from Gath, “Why are you coming with us? Go on back to King Absalom, for you are a guest in Israel, a foreigner in exile. 20 You arrived only recently, and should I force you today to wander with us? I don’t even know where we will go. Go on back and take your kinsmen with you, and may the Lord show you his unfailing love and faithfulness.[b]21 But Ittai said to the king, “I vow by the Lord and by your own life that I will go wherever my lord the king goes, no matter what happens—whether it means life or death.” 22 David replied, “All right, come with us.” So Ittai and all his men and their families went along.

David’s own son had ganged up against him, and his life was in danger. Then, as David was going to face Absalom, he spoke to Ittai, a man who had sworn allegiance to him, encouraging him to go back to his land with his family, as David was riding into danger rather than Paradise. Funny enough, Ittai hailed from Gath – the city where Goliath hailed from. Yet, he was loyal to a fault – to David. He was ready to give his life up for David, not because he was obliged to, but because he desired to do so.

In the end, David won the war over Absalom, with Ittai being one of his army managers (2 Samuel 18). What can we learn from this?

  • First, loyalty is a very great strength. In the world of today, there are very few loyal people; most people are only looking for people to use and dump. But, those few people who are loyal are as precious as gold, in my opinion. Loyalty is a gift and blessing unto others; and it can help save lives (as in David’s case). Loyalty can set you apart as a man or woman of character among a crowd of 10,000 people. I thereby encourage you to be loyal – be loyal to your family, be loyal to your spouses and loved ones, be loyal to your company or boss, be loyal to every cause you are involved with. Loyalty shows a rare depth of character.
  • Second, David was a man after GOD’s heart (1 Samuel 13: 14), and he therefore had the gift of men. When he was in the time of need, GOD sent men like Ittai who were loyal so much they’d die for him, to help him win the war. That is how Awesome GOD is, and that is how HE helps those who love HIM.

Finally, endeavor to be loyal to those around you and they will absolutely appreciate you for it!

Have a blessed week in JESUS’ Name!

Good day People of GOD🙂

I and my Father are one (John 10: 30 NIV).

So, who exactly is JESUS? Our GOD? Our Creator? Our Brother? Our Friend? YES. HE is our GOD, our Creator, our Brother and our Friend.

But, how is this possible?

First, we will address the fact that JESUS is GOD and our Creator, and that HE is part of the Holy Trinity. Then, in later posts, we will address JESUS as our Brother and Friend.  One of the most hotly-debated topics in and concerning Christianity is whether JESUS is GOD. The Bible is however clear on the existence of the Holy Trinity: GOD has three personalities – GOD the Father, GOD the Son and GOD the Holy Spirit. However, JESUS said and insinuated severally, that HE is GOD. Even the prophets (Old Testament) and disciples (New Testament) spoke of GOD, the Son and the HOLY SPIRIT.

It is impossible to perfectly explain and understand the Holy Trinity. GOD is infinitely greater than human words and expressions can ever explain, so it is normal not to completely understand HIM. GOD says in Isaiah 55: 8-9:

8“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts (Isaiah 55: 8-9 NIV emphasis mine).

The Bible teaches that there is only one GOD – in three Awesome Persons. This may be hard to understand or rationalize as some are wont to do, but this does not mean the Trinity does not exist or that it is not based on teachings of the Bible. By the way, the term ‘Trinity’ does not exist in the Bible, but it is a term coined to describe the three co-existent and co-eternal Personalities that make up GOD. So, what does the Bible say about the Holy Trinity:

    1. The Members of the Holy Trinity have different roles, but they are the same GOD.
    2. Each member of the Holy Trinity is GOD. The Father is GOD: Peter speaking to GOD’s Elect says in 1 Peter 1: 2, ‘who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance (NIV)’. JESUS the Son is also GOD: ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (NIV)’. The HOLY SPIRIT is also GOD: ‘Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? (1 Corinthians 3: 16)’.
    3. The Members of the HOLY Trinity are distinguished from one another. Psalm 2: 11-12 says, ‘Worship the LORD with reverence and rejoice with trembling. 12Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish inthe way, for His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him (NASB)!’. Thus, the Psalmist clearly distinguishes between GOD the Father and GOD the Son, and those who claim the concept of the Holy Trinity only came up in the New Testament are wrong. Moreover, JESUS says in John 14: 16-17, ‘16 And I will pray [to] the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you (KJV).’ Here, JESUS even acknowledges the role of the HOLY SPIRIT as Comforter and that HE is not the HOLY SPIRIT HIMSELF.
    4. The Holy Trinity consists of three Persons. In Genesis, when GOD is being referred to, the Hebrew plural pronoun is used constantly implying more than two Persons. In Genesis 1: 26, ‘And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…(NIV)’; in Genesis 3: 22, ‘And the LORD God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil…(NIV)’. Who did you think GOD was referring to? HIS Angels? Of course, HE was referring to GOD the Son and GOD the HOLY SPIRIT – they took all decisions together. The existence of the Holy Trinity is shown clearer here: ‘16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased’ (Matthew 3: 16-17). While GOD the Son was being baptized, GOD the Holy Spirit descended on HIM like a dove, and GOD the Father spoke from Heaven of HIS Son.
    5. There is just one GOD. Moses says to the Israelites in Deuteronomy 6: 4, ‘Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one (NIV)’. Paul speaking of the Role of JESUS as Mediator between GOD the Father and mankind says, ‘A mediator, however, implies more than one party; but God is one (NIV)’.
    6. GOD the Father is the Initiator of Creation: ‘But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things… (1 Corinthians 8: 6 KJV)’; Divine Revelation, ‘The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants… (Revelation 1: 1)’; Salvation, ‘For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son… (John 3: 16 KJV)’.
    7. GOD the Son is the Agent through whom the Father performs creation, ‘All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made (John 1: 3)’; Divine Revelation, ‘All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him (Matthew 11: 27 KJV)’ and Salvation, ‘To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them… (2 Corinthians 5: 19 KJV)’.

GOD the Holy Spirit is the Power of GOD

and the Means through which GOD

performs Creation and maintenance of the Universe

      , ‘

When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground

      (Psalm 104: 30)’;

Divine Revelation

      , ‘

…which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets

      (Ephesians 3: 5 NIV)’; Salvation, ‘

Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life

      (John 3: 6 NLT)’; and

JESUS’ Works

      , ‘

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him

    (Acts 10: 38 KJV)’.

To conclude today, there is no natural or human equivalent of the Holy Trinity. So, it is not wise to try to understand it from the human point of view or to rationalize it. GOD’s Thoughts and Wisdom are infinitely higher than your own can ever be. Rather, focus and reflect on GOD’s Awesome Love for you. HE came and laid HIS Life down on the cross so that you can be saved and given a chance to live – on earth and in eternity. That is what matters. All Glory be to the Most High GOD, the LORD GOD of Hosts, Amen!

Have a blessed weekend everyone 🙂

P.S.:  no matter who is president, JESUS is still Our King! But, please pray for the success of our leaders and the progress of your country. Jeremiah counsels: ‘Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper (Jeremiah 29: 7 NIV)’.

May the LORD bless the study of HIS Awesome Word in JESUS’ Name!

Good day People of GOD🙂

So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:
‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts (Zechariah 4: 6 NKJV).

Today, we will be looking at Zechariah 4: 6, where an Angel of GOD tells Zechariah that GOD is saying, you cannot do it by might or by your power, but only by the HOLY SPIRIT.

We live in a world that hardly believes in GOD anymore. So, people are encouraged to work hard, do their best and succeed. That’s great advice, but there is always emphasis on ‘you can do it yourself; there’s no one up there who can change things’. So, many people today find it hard to believe that GOD can do anything for them or intervene on their behalf, because ‘why should GOD care?’. But, GOD does care – HE will never leave or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31: 6).

However, this is the Word of the LORD: ‘not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit’. Zechariah 4: 6 is pretty straight-forward. Nothing can be achieved by might, by power, but only by the HOLY SPIRIT. Why? The HOLY SPIRIT is the Power of GOD, and is the Power that empowers men to do great things. In Acts 6: 8, JESUS says:

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (KJV).

The HOLY SPIRIT also speaks to HIS People and guides them (2 Peter 1: 21; 1 Kings 19: 11-12). Men have achieved great things by the Help of the HOLY SPIRIT, and we in this generation cannot be an exception! Zechariah 4: 6 and John 15: 5 clearly destroy those theories and myths that claim that GOD is not involved in the affairs of men.

Essentially, you cannot achieve anything by your might or power, but only by the HOLY SPIRIT’s Help. Even Solomon who did not know much about the HOLY SPIRIT says in Ecclesiastes 9: 11:

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

What Solomon referred to as time and chance – Christians would call it Divine Favor. However, the point is your effort can produce much more if you are led by the HOLY SPIRIT. JESUS echoed this point when HE says in John 15: 5:

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing (NIV).

Have you ever tried to do something so hard, and you still failed? Or made so much effort, but it all went to waste? Well, when you have the Power of the HOLY SPIRIT in you, you will succeed in whatever you are doing, unless it is not GOD’s Will. Isaiah 59: 1 says:

Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear (NIV).

Thus, GOD has the Power to do all things, and only by HIS SPIRIT can you achieve anything.

JESUS is GOD (John 10: 30), yet HE did nothing by HIMSELF (JESUS is GOD the Son – one Personality of GOD, yet HE did nothing by HIMSELF):

So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does (John 5: 19 NIV).

This has mostly been my experience: when I try doing something by relying on just my power or working hard, things do not go as planned. But, if I don’t stress too much, but just place my hope in GOD that everything will go well, things go better than I planned. So, when I want something so bad, I remind myself that it can only come by GOD’s Power, and try not to get excited about doing it on my own. Rather, I’d pray and let the HOLY SPIRIT lead me in what I should do.

In conclusion, when Paul says, ‘I can do all things through him who strengthens me (Philippians 4: 13 NIV)’, who do you think he was talking about? The HOLY SPIRIT of course! And when you are filled with the HOLY SPIRIT, you will be an amazing mystery unto others, as JESUS illustrates in John 3: 8:

The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit (NIV).
