JAMES 1: 12 BLESSED IS THE MAN WHO REMAINS STEADFAST UNDER TRIAL, FOR WHEN HE HAS STOOD THE TEST HE WILL RECEIVE THE CROWN OF LIFE, WHICH GOD HAS PROMISED TO THOSE WHO LOVE HIM

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD🙂

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him (James 1: 12 ESV)

tumblr_na51tozj7w1tcwdj7o1_500

Today, we will be looking at James 1: 12 which counsels us to remain steadfast under trial so that we may receive the Crown of Life. The broad theme is still Distractions – so this is the third part in the series dealing with distractions.

Spiritual growth is a journey, a process and a privilege. You have to work hard at it to get better at it. You cannot afford to be complacent. Paul was called by CHRIST (Acts 9: 5), but he had to work on his spiritual life to get to the point where he could challenge Peter, and at the end of his life he could say, ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4: 7 NIV).’ Powerful.

GOD has been Awesome in my life and HE brought me to where I am today, but, I have realized that my spiritual growth depends on consistency in spending time with GOD praying, studying the Bible, fasting and (making the effort to) live a righteous life. Anytime I slacked in doing any of these things, I felt like I had strayed from GOD and I had no peace. One Scripture that encouraged me to keep pressing towards the Goal is Philippians 3: 12-14 where Paul says:

12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3: 12-14 NKJV).

When you have a loved one, you would want to spend time with them, do the activities they like, and talk to them as regularly as possible, right? That is the way your relationship with GOD should be! GOD is not a scary person, or a Bad Guy or a wicked person or an unkind person. After all, HE sent HIS Only Begotten Son to die for us on the cross of Calvary, so we can have everlasting life (John 3: 16)! You might want to rethink your idea or image of GOD. The Psalmist says:

The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy (Psalm 145: 8).

keep-calm-and-get-the-crown-james-112.png

Getting back to the topic, how do you develop an intimate relationship with GOD, focus on HIM and avoid distractions? Sometimes, you have to leave everything else and go to a quiet place and spend some quality quiet time with GOD. You cannot hear GOD amidst noise and too much activity. When the HOLY SPIRIT speaks, HIS Voice is very gentle – when the HOLY SPIRIT spoke to Elijah after an earthquake, HIS Voice came like a gentle whisper (1 Kings 19: 12). GOD speaks to you through your spirit, so you have to be quiet in order to hear HIM. Moreover, JESUS’s Actions depict why we need a quiet place sometimes to hear from GOD:

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest (Mark 6: 31 NIV).

Here are some pointers on developing an intimate relationship with GOD:

  • Set a time apart for daily prayer: 20 minutes out of your twenty-four hours is not too much to spend in prayer with GOD. Morning hours are the best time to pray and communicate with GOD. See Mark 1: 35: ‘And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he [JESUS] went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed’ (NIV).
  • Set time apart for study of the Word and daily reflection: it is not enough to just read through one chapter of a couple of verses just so you can tick the box. Setting apart at least 30 minutes when you can truly meditate on the Word daily goes a long way towards building your relationship with GOD. Prioritizing you daily time goes a long way towards ensuring you fulfill your destiny on earth. You have to make time for the most important things in your daily life, else, you will be giving excuses in the future. And excuses does not get anything done, and it does not achieve dreams or goals. See Ephesians 5: 15-16: 15: ‘Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, 16 [b]making the most of your time, because the days are evil’ (NASB).

Work-out-your-own-salvation-with-fear-and-trembling.png

Finally, you have the responsibility to work out your salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2: 12). Moreover, it is a privilege to know GOD and to be Christian. So, endeavor to spend more time with GOD, get to know HIM better, improve your relationship with HIM, and see yourself fulfill your great destiny on earth. So,

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12: 1-2 NIV).

P.S. We pray that GOD will be with the people of Haiti and others hit by the Hurricane Matthew, and that HE will restore what the enemy has stolen from them in seven fold (Proverbs 6: 31), and that HE will heal and comfort all the families affected.

GOD bless you all and Peace <3.

HEBREWS 2: 1 KEEP A FIRM GRIP ON WHAT YOU HAVE HEARD SO THAT YOU DON’T DRIFT OFF

Good day/Bonjour/Shalom/Ekabo,

It is good to be back again. I have been extraordinarily busy lately, so I had to take some time off to get my act together.

Today, I just want to share a Word that has helped me in the previous weeks, which admonishes us to keep hold of the Word we have heard; to stand firm so that we do n0t drift off.

“It’s crucial that we keep a firm grip on what we’ve heard so that we don’t drift off” (MSG).

Spiritual maturity is a process. You only grow spiritually if you work hard at it, and be persistent. Spiritual growth has seasons as well – there are times when you experience a spurt of growth and there are times when you may experience ‘dryness’ or testing. However, it is important to work hard at spiritual growth, be persistent (take it one step at a time), and record your growth (in a journal or somewhere else). When you see you have made some progress spiritually, you should celebrate by giving thanks to GOD, and hope for more progress in your spiritual life.

Another interpretation of this Scripture is that you should keep a firm grip of the Word of GOD you have heard so that you do not drift off. As human beings, we are fallible, and we do forget important things! This is why you are encouraged at church to have a daily bible study schedule so that you can always study the Word. Moreover, a Yoruba saying goes, ‘Ranti omo eni ti o je’ – remember the child/Child of whom you are. Parents say this to children so that they do not forget their home training. And as Christians who are Ambassadors of CHRIST on earth, we should remember who our Father is – Awesome JEHOVAH – in every instance and situation. This way, it is easier to overcome temptation and it is easier not to fear. In Psalm 91: 5, you are commanded not to fear – so it’s a command –

‘Thou shalt not be afraid of the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day (KJV)’

Finally, hold on to the Word of GOD so that you do not drift off from GOD’s Kingdom. The LORD’s Word/Truth is your Shield and Buckler against the wiles of the enemy –

‘…his truth shall be thy shield and buckler (Psalm 91: 4 KJV)’

MATTHEW 7: 11 HOW MUCH MORE WILL YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN GIVE GOOD GIFTS TO THOSE WHO ASK HIM!

ask-and-you-shall-receive-01.gif

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD 🙂

Today we will be looking at Matthew 7: 11, where JESUS says that GOD will give unto us good gifts if we ask HIM!

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him (NIV)!

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him (KJV)?

If you then, evil (sinful by nature) as you are, know how to give good and advantageous gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven [perfect as He is] give what is good and advantageous to those who keep on asking Him (AMP).

What are the ‘good gifts’ referred to here? These include the things that matter more than fame or fortune. Divine health. Prosperity. Longevity. Joy. Happiness. Love. Friendship. Acceptance. Contentment. The things money cannot buy.

index 1.jpg

GOD gives good gifts to people. To HIS Children. But, only those who ask HIM! If you don’t ask, don’t expect to receive. You cannot wish anything into existence. Even worldly people know that you must work hard to get anything that’s worthwhile! Here, GOD simply requires you to ask HIM, in order to receive. A couple of things in this regard must be clarified.

  • There is nothing you need GOD cannot give you. There is nothing good GOD cannot provide. All you need to do is ask in faith! Matthew 7: 7 says, ‘Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you (NIV).’ Moreover, GOD has promised to meet you at the point of you needs according to the Awesome Riches of HIS Glory in JESUS CHRIST (Philippians 4: 19).
  • GOD truly wants you to have good things in life. HE desires your health and prosperity above everything else. In Jeremiah 29: 11, GOD says:For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (NIV). In Matthew 7: 11, JESUS also says, If you…know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him (NIV)! Moreover, GOD wishes above all things that you be prosper even as your soul prospereth (3 John: 2)!
  • EVERY GOOD THING IS FROM GOD. James 1: 17 says, ‘Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows (NIV)’. You don’t even have to be Christian for this to apply to you. Worldly people prosper, yes, because GOD allows it! People talk about luck, but I know about Divine Favour! Not everybody who works hard and is good, makes it in life! There is an element of Divine Favour that works for people leading to their success, Christian or not. Of course, Divine Favour is from GOD because HE is very much involved in the affairs of men! The point: EVERY GOOD THING COMES FROM GOD, EVEN IF YOU DID NOT PRAY FOR IT, OR ASK FOR IT, OR YOU GOT IT FROM ‘NATURAL SOURCES’! Excuse me for the capital letters, but I really need to get the point across. Some people like to explain away their blessings, and they shouldn’t!

BusXAP1CAAArEvO.jpg

  • GOD is waiting for you to ask, so that you can receive. If you are not seeing your needs met, it is not GOD’s fault. It is not that GOD does not have your blessing or solution ready; it is not that HE does not want to help you. But, you are not asking HIM for it! This is why it is important to study and meditate on the Word so that you know what you are entitled to in CHRIST. If you do not know what you are entitled to, you will not ask for it. There is a story that illustrates this point. A man enters a subway train for the first time. He is not aware that you could get free coffee on the train. He sees everyone else with coffee, but thinks they paid extra for it. So, he does not request his free coffee. Only after getting to his destination, does he ask someone else how much the coffee cost, and is told that it is for free!

index.jpg

James 4: 2 says that you do not have because you do not ask GOD. I had an experience that illustrates this point. My family and I have been believing GOD for something for many years now. But we have not gotten round to achieving this thing because it is very expensive and time consuming. It has been on our prayer list for almost six years! Essentially, life had been getting in the way. But I had stopped praying about it. One day, a thought came to me that GOD could make a way where there is no way, and that we could get this thing done within the next three months. I was wondering if GOD wants to do it, and the HOLY SPIRIT said that if I don’t ask HIM, why would I expect GOD to give me and my family that heart desire?

This thought hit me so hard like freezing cold water. I was like, but JESUS says GOD knows what we want before we even ask (Matthew 6: 8; Isaiah 65: 24). Yet, JESUS says in Matthew 7: 7, ‘ask and it shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be open unto you’. So, if I just sit back and do nothing or do not pray, and expect that GOD would answer my heart desire, I could dream on. If you don’t ask, don’t expect to receive. If you don’t knock, don’t expect the door to open. If you don’t seek, don’t expect to find! It is not that GOD does not want to give you what you need; HE is waiting for you to ask!

index 2.png

Finally, GOD is an Awesome and Faithful GOD. HE loves you too much to let you suffer (John 3: 16). No father wants to raise spoilt and irresponsible children, and GOD is such a Father. GOD wants you to be mature enough to ask in faith so that you can receive. Moreover, your receiving good things from GOD is very connected to the state of your spiritual walk with GOD or your spiritual health. This is why John says:

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth (3 John: 2 NIV).

Therefore, as your spiritual prosperity is the foundation of your physical and financial prosperity. Your spiritual health determines your physical and financial health!

PROVERBS 4:24 KEEP YOUR MOUTH FREE OF PERVERSITY; KEEP CORRUPT TALK FAR FROM YOUR LIPS

l-84080

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD 🙂

Today we will be looking at Proverbs 4: 24, where we are counseled to keep perverse/corrupt talk from you lips.

Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips (NIV).

Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee (KJV).

You have to be extremely careful of the words you speak. First, words we speak can constitute grave sins against GOD.

Perversity means to intentionally deviate from what is good or right. JESUS says that everybody will one day account before GOD for every wrong/bad word he says during his lifetime on earth (Matthew 12: 36; 5: 22). It is important to watch what you say on earth because GOD watches what you say too. This is further confirmed by the Scripture that says that Angels of GOD pay attention to what you say (Exodus 23: 21), so it is useless to say something and then exclaim that you did not mean it!

In addition, it is not good or seemly to say perverse things which include curse words or dirty words. For one, GOD cannot be living in you and you would be saying perverse things. The HOLY SPIRIT is the Spirit of the Fear of GOD (Isaiah 11: 2), and the Fear of GOD makes you not to say wrong things. Even if you do, you will feel so uncomfortable you will ask GOD for forgiveness.

Besides, what you say signifies what is in your heart. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23: 7). When you use curse words for instance, you see mature Christians or plain decent people giving you a funny look or looking shocked.  Apart from the fact that they hate the use of curse words, they are consciously or subconsciously think you are a bad person to use such words. They judge you on the spot. I remember when I was a baby in CHRIST and I used curse words. Afterwards, people say, ‘I never knew you could say that’. Obviously, that is not a compliment. Thus, we have to have our hearts purified by the Word in order to have our words and actions purified. JESUS says:

33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him (Matthew 12: 33-35 ).

12716699_977165055670497_60340207_n

Secondly, your tongue can make or break your destiny. Proverbs 18: 21 says: ‘Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof’. Moreover,

From the fruit of their lips people enjoy good things, but the unfaithful have an appetite for violence. Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin (Proverbs 13: 2-3 NIV)’.

What else need be said after this? It is obvious that speaking the right things can open the right doors for you. Saying the wrong things can shut doors forever. Why? Because there are invisible beings (Angels of GOD) who hear what you say and honour what you say. This is why GOD warns the Israelites not to transgress or rebel (this includes saying the wrong things or complaining) because HIS Angel will be going with them and will punish them for saying or doing the wrong things (Exodus 23: 20-21). This is also why JESUS says:

But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell (Matthew 5: 22 NIV).

Thus, our mouths can make or break our destinies. It can make all the difference between success and failure in life. The Bible says that you shall decree a thing and it shall be established (Job 22: 28); as you say in GOD’s Ears, so will HE do (Numbers 14: 28). Remember when the LORD said that leaders from Israel should explore Canaan, they saw giants and came back to give a bad report to the Israelites (Numbers 13). As a result, the Israelites started grumbling and wished they had died in Egypt (Numbers 14: 1-4). Indeed, they died in the desert and did not get to their destination by the Word of the LORD (Numbers 14: 26-35).

5f399496fdd269983493b39bd03b24e7.jpg

Thirdly, it has been said that certain words you speak can constitute grave sins against GOD. How? JESUS says:

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment (Matthew 12: 36 KJV).

An idle word refers to a word you should not say or that you are not supposed to say. Thus, you shall give account to GOD for every bad word you say on earth on the Day of Judgement. Whether you say such words out of anger or by mistake or not, you shall give account on Judgment Day. This means you shall explain to GOD why you said it, and take responsibility for saying such idle word (s). This is why the Bible says that anger lies in the bosom of fools (Ecclesiastes 7: 9). This is because even if you say something bad out of anger, you shall take responsibility for it. No matter how bad the consequences are.

JESUS also says:

For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned (Matthew 12: 37 NIV).

This Scripture supports what we have seen so far. Basically, your words can qualify you for Heaven or condemn you to hell. Your words can save your life, admit you into Heaven or set you on the path to eternal destruction. This is how powerful the words you say are. Let’s see the context of this Scripture:

33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.

index 1.jpg

Therefore, what you speak and how you speak is directly related to your righteousness and perfection in CHRIST. In other words, if you are truly righteous, you would not say things that offend GOD or hurt fellow human beings.  For example, you would not lie about your neighbours or say malicious things about them. However, where any Christian brother or sister is going astray, you have the duty to come clean and speak the truth to such brother or sister about their bad behavior which offends GOD. In this case, you should not mince words. You have to be frank even if it hurts. At the end, you would be helping them, and GOD sees your pure intentions. Whether they accept the truth or not is up to them. Moreover, if your heart is clean, your mouth would be clean. Only words that edify the Church and fellow brethren would come out of your mouth. Not words that destroy or cause hurt.

In addition, JESUS says yet again:

31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come (Matthew 12: 31-32 NIV).

This is self-explanatory. It is NOT every sin GOD forgives. GOD does not forgive every sin. James says:

The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell (James 3: 6).

You have to be extremely careful of the way in which you use your tongues so that you can use your tongues in glorifying GOD, and in preparing yourself for Heaven. Do not seek your destruction with your tongue!

418289.jpg

Finally, gossiping is one bad practice that not only destroys its victim, but the gossiper as well. Saying malicious things about other people not only offends the victim(s) but GOD as well. Thus, speaking kindly to someone this moment, and gossiping about them the next is a punishable sin. See Proverbs 29: 5-

“A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.”

Gossiping is like digging a pit for somebody else. GOD cannot be mocked: whatever you sow, you reap (Galatians 6: 7). Thus, you shall fall into the pit which you have dug for another person yourself.

A parallel of this Scripture is found in Proverbs 20: 19- He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.

Proverbs 4: 23 ABOVE ALL ELSE, GUARD YOUR HEART, FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO FLOWS FROM IT (contd.)

8cd366b1c7c1722cdc5f001dbd6f2ad2.jpg

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD 🙂

Today we will continue to look at Proverbs 4: 23, where the Wise Man counsels us to guard our hearts because everything we do comes from it.

4 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

Paul clearly warns us to guard our hearts against beliefs and doctrines contrary to GOD’s Word. It is easy to fall victim practices and doctrines of the world. During the time that time Timothy was abiding in Ephesus, there were people who propagated or promoted fables and genealogies that made raised questions about the Gospel, instead of making people believe in CHRIST. Of course, from a worldly point of view, this may have made sense, but the Gospel can only make sense to someone to whom the HOLY SPIRIT ministers. This is why the JESUS says that nobody comes unto HIM unless the HOLY SPIRIT draws him nearer (John 6: 44). Everybody at some point has raised questions about the Bible. Like ‘Who is GOD?’, ‘Where did HE come from?’, ‘Is JESUS really the Son of GOD?’, ‘Is Christianity the only way to have access to GOD?’ however, it takes the HOLY SPIRIT to find the answers to these questions in the Bible. There are also people who question the truth of events and things in the Bible. So, they say that the fact that something is in the Bible does not mean that it is true. Nonetheless, there has been, still is, and will be scientific and archaeological evidence discovered which corroborate events and practices in the Bible.  The Bible was written by men inspired by the HOLY SPIRIT. Sure, it reflects the conservative views of those days, but it is still the Word of GOD and you need the HOLY SPIRIT to understand and gain a lot from it. Peter says in 2 Peter 1: 21-

For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit (NIV).

_private.jpg

There are so-called prophets out there preaching doctrines that clearly contradict GOD’s Word. And people are falling victim to it. For example, there is this church around the school I attend that claims there is ‘God the Mother’. If ‘GOD the Mother exists’, why isn’t she ever referred to in the Bible? The Scriptures they quote to support their view do not imply that there is GOD the Mother. If ‘GOD the Mother’ does exist, JESUS would have referred to her at least once in the Bible. These people are clearly following pagan customs. In pagan religions, they serve and venerate goddesses. But, the concept of a goddess is absent from the Bible- there is not a single reference in the Bible of one- and trust me, I have done my research. Thus, trying to introduce the ‘goddess’ into Christianity is not only blasphemous, but stupid. Also, there are people around the world (I know of one in Latin America) claiming to be Christ or Anti-Christ. And people are falling for these things. Truly, we need to guard our hearts. IF SOMETHING IS NOT IN GOD’S WORD, DO NOT BELIEVE IT. The devil is surely looking for whom he could steal, kill and destroy. JESUS came so that you can have life in abundance on earth and make Heaven ultimately (John 10: 10). Focus on this goal of eternal life with CHRIST, rather than on re-mixed Christian doctrines men (so-called pastors) are using to draw followers and feed their families.

Many things are acceptable, but not everything is right. A parallel to this is found in 1 Corinthians 6: 12-

‘”I have the right to do anything,” you say–but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”–but I will not be mastered by anything’.

Similarly, 1 Corinthians 10: 23-

I have the right to do anything,” you say–but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”–but not everything is constructive’.

1cor10-23.png

This is really self-explanatory. In the world of today, we don’t have the same moral values we had at the time of CHRIST or         HIS Apostles or even in the 20th century. The world has moved ‘ahead’ so much that we now have less moral values than before. Thus, more things are becoming ‘acceptable’, ‘normal’, or ‘usual’ or ‘palatable’. Not because they are good things, but because by worldly standards, they are ‘acceptable’. So, nobody speaks against these practices and nobody wants to do anything about it. For example, premarital sex (in any form), wearing desperately revealing clothes, tattooing your body all over, and engaging in certain illicit business is now becoming ‘acceptable’ in the Church. Pastors no longer preach against these practices for fear that members will leave their church. Moreover, many Christians no longer care about speaking the truth and being frank to fellow Christians. Instead, we tend to flatter everybody, even though we know that we should actually speak to fellow Christians about the wrong things they do and encourage them to desist from doing them, and pray to the HOLY SPIRIT to make them change. No wonder the Bible says that the faltering mouth worketh ruin (Proverbs 26: 28).

Finally, there is that popular saying that the mind is a battle ground. And that is very true. Everyday, good thoughts war with evil thoughts in your mind, and the winner expresses itself in your actions. The state of your heart determines your thoughts and eventual actions. Moreover, Romans 12: 2-

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will (NIV).

We have seen why we should guard our hearts against the world, and against the devil. The question is how? The answer is found in Ephesians 6: 10-18:

10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people (NIV).

Paul certainly understood why we have to guard our hearts against the enemy’s invasion.

PROVERBS 4: 23 ABOVE ALL ELSE, GUARD YOUR HEART, FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO FLOWS FROM IT

4f3d95f20999db196bcacb90963c55ad

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD 🙂

Today we will be looking at Proverbs 4: 23 where the Wise Man counsels us to guard our hearts because everything, as in everything, we do flows from it.

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it (NIV).

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life (KJV).

Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flows the springs of life (AMP).

Above all else, you should guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

GOD is saying: guard your heart from fleshly desires, from the devil, from the world, from the darts of the enemy. Why? Before you do anything, you first have to think about it, and only then do you formulate the plan to do it. The mind is the source of all actions- good or evil. Your actions are an expression of the workings of you mind. This is why the wise man says that as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23: 7). Jeremiah also laments saying in relation to wicked people:

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jeremiah 17: 9)

Your mind is so powerful that you have to imagine great things in order to achieve them. Great things also start from the mind. GOD acknowledges that when you imagine something in your heart, you can achieve it.  Awesome GOD recognises this when HE confuses the language of the men building the Tower of Babel because (Genesis 11: 1-7):

And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do (Genesis 11: 6 KJV).

Why do you have to guard your heart from fleshly desires? Paul says:

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12: 2 NIV).

Thus, the only way to guard your heart as the King Solomon counsels in Proverbs 4: 23, is to study and meditate on the Word of GOD.  Paul echoes this when he says to Timothy,

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2: 15).

If you do not study GOD’s Word to renew your mind, and thus guard your hearts, you would not be able to prevent yourself from conforming to the patterns of the world. And you would not be able to test what GOD’s Will is. We live in a world of moral decadence and debauchery. Unfortunately, many so-called Christians are falling prey to the works of the flesh and thereby soil the Name of our LORD JESUS and the Church. I was preaching to someone the other day, and counselling him against doing certain things. Then, he was telling me of so-called Christians who do bad things too. So, the question was: am I just a moralist or is it the Word of GOD I was preaching to him?

This is why this Scripture that counsels us to guard our hearts is very important in this age of moral decadence. Nobody is perfect, for sure. However, you would not be able to know what is good, acceptable and perfect in the Eyes of Awesome JEHOVAH, if you don’t study HIS Word. And you cannot guard you heart unless you know what to guard it against! Of course, to live a righteous life according to GOD’s Standards, you have to know what GOD’s Will is.

Why do you have to guard your heart from the devil? JESUS says in John 10: 10, that the devil came to steal, kill and destroy. The devil only has access to your heart if you let him in. In other words, if you do something that would invite the devil in, he will come in and he will bite you. This is why King Solomon says:

He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him (Ecclesiates 10:8).

To break an hedge in this context is to do something that’s sinful or wrong, that will break GOD’s Hedge of Protection around you. The devil speaks of this Hedge of Protection when he tells GOD that the reason why Job is holy is because he has this Hedge of Protection around him:

Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land (Job 1: 10 NIV).

So, when you go into devil’s arena by doing what he will do, and committing sin, he will definitely attack you. Why? Because you have given him the chance to attack you.

Awesome JESUS has conquered the devil (Ephesians 1: 19-21), and the devil is powerless in relation to you unless you give him the power to attack you. JESUS also has the keys to death and hell (Revelations 1: 18). Yet, you must be spiritually sensitive and watch carefully (Matthew 26: 41). Why? So that you do not fall into temptation. The end is near. The devil knows it and he wants to destroy as many people as possible. The devil has truly come to kill, steal and destroy (John 10: 10).  Yes, it is the truth. We are truly in the End Time. Paul shows us why we should guard our hearts in 2 Timothy 3: 1-5, where he speaks of the End Time:

1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away (2 Timothy 3: 1-5 KJV).

images

Finally, 2 Timothy 3: 1-5 shows exactly why it is important to guard you heart so that you are part of the people Paul mentions in this Scripture. When I was growing up, I used to look at this list and tell myself that if I am more obedient to my parents, I would not be part of those mentioned on the list. The Bible says, ‘If the foundation be destroyed, what can the righteous do?’ (Psalm 11: 3 KJV). The foundation being referred to is the foundation of your life; the foundation of your destiny. What destroys the foundation of life and destiny? Sin/wickedness. This is emphasized in verse 2:

2For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.

Prayer: Thank YOU LORD for the study of YOUR Word. HOLY SPIRIT, empower me to guard against fleshly desires and the ‘vultures’ that prey upon the heart. Amen.

PSALM 34: 10 THOSE WHO SEEK THE LORD WILL LACK NO GOOD THING

keep-calm-and-seek-god-first.png

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD 🙂

Today we will be looking at Psalm 34: 10, where the Psalmist says that those who seek the LORD will lack no good thing, even if young lions may lack and suffer hunger.

The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing (NIV).

The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing (KJV).

The young lions lack [food] and grow hungry, but they who seek the Lord will not lack any good thing (AMP).

Those who seek the LORD WILL LACK NO GOOD THING. Even lions may grow weak and hungry.

Not only real lions may grow hungry. Even’ human lions’- the powerful men and women of this world- may grow weak and hungry. YET, THOSE WHO SEEK THE LORD SHALL LACK NO GOOD THING.

This is the promise GOD gave to HIS People, who seek and serve HIM Faithfully. When you seek the LORD truthfully and wholeheartedly, you will find HIM (Jeremiah 29: 13), and you will lack no good thing. What are the ‘good things’ referred to in this Scripture? They go far beyond some good things people desire so much on earth as like power, prosperity, influence, riches & wealth, children. a family, a wife or husband, fulfilment of destiny, good clothes, etc.

Other important good things are the following. Divine health. Prosperity. Longevity. Joy. Happiness. Love. Friendship. Acceptance. Contentment. These are things MONEY CANNOT BUY. Yet, we need these things for life itself to be worth living. Your life would not be worth much if you are constantly ill, sad, and dying, would it? What is the point of being rich and comfortable if you are not content with what you have? If you have no friends or loved ones, would you enjoy life? It is a privilege to have people who love and care about you in your life. Obviously, because JESUS lives, we can face tomorrow. Life is worth living because HE lives. This is also why we can only get these things if we truly fear GOD.

all-you-need-is-god.png

GOD has said if you seek HIM with all your heart, you will find HIM (Jeremiah 29: 13).  GOD is omnipresent- HE is everywhere (Jeremiah 23: 24; Proverbs 15: 3). But, only when you seek HIM wholeheartedly do you find HIM. Seeking GOD is worth everything it costs you. This is because you have to give up worldly things or solutions to find GOD. The Bible says that friendship with the world is enmity with GOD (James 4: 4). If you are not ready to give up the world, you cannot successfully seek GOD and find HIM. It is impossible for you to look up and down at the same time- one eye cannot be looking up, while the other is looking down. You have to make a choice. In the same way, you must make a choice to choose to look up to GOD and seek HIM with the thirst to find HIM, and only then can you find GOD. When you find GOD, you will lack no good thing. JESUS even said that you cannot serve GOD and mammon (Matthew 6: 24). You cannot serve two things- you either love one or hate the other.  ‘Mammon’ in this context refers to anything you put in the place of GOD in your life or anything you are relying on in the place of GOD. So, you have to make a choice to seek GOD only, and wholeheartedly, and that’s when you can find HIM.

Seeking GOD is so worth it. What good things are you looking to have? No matter what it is, GOD is the only way you can get it and it will last. If you go to the devil, he will give you what you want, and add trouble. If you go to a man for help, he will disappoint you because he is imperfect and when he is tired of you, he will dump you. Only the blessings of GOD makes rich, and adds no sorrow (Proverbs 10: 22). GOD is the only one who gives liberally, and without condemnation (James 1: 5). It is a privilege to be alive and to have loved ones who love and care about you. It is a privilege to be in good health, and not be sickly. These are the good things of life, and only GOD can give you freely, without asking for payment.

index.jpg

Even better is the fact that the more you seek GOD, the closer you will get to HIM, and you get to make Heaven. Worldly people who chose the world over GOD will perish in hell in eternity, if they do not repent. Remember the Rich Fool- he chose wealth and worldly things over GOD, and he refused to give glory to GOD for his good fortune. He also did not show mercy to poor Lazarus, but treated him with contempt. The night he was glorifying himself and refused to give glory to GOD, he died, and was cast into hell (Luke 12: 13-21). If you have not realised, the hope of making Heaven is indeed one of the good things of life. When you are confident that if JESUS comes now, you will be part of the saints who will follow HIM, it is a privilege. Thus, it is worth every worldly ‘good’ thing you give up to seek GOD, serve HIM faithfully, and find HIM. Only in HIS Hands can you find the good things of life.

Prayer: Thank YOU LORD for the study of YOUR Word. HOLY SPIRIT, empower me to genuinely seek GOD wholeheartedly and find HIM. Amen.
