Good day People of GOD.
Today we will be looking at Jeremiah 31: 33, where GOD promises to put HIS Law on our hearts and minds, so that we always would know what to do.
This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people (NIV)
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people (KJV).
But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” says the Lord, “I will put My law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they will be My people (AMP).
Background facts: GOD is telling Jeremiah of the new Covenant HE will make with the people of Judah in future. No specific time period is indicated. However, we can safely assume that time is now. Awesome JESUS CHRIST alludes to it when HE says HE will give us another Advocate to help us and be with us forever. HE will live in us and with us (John 14: 16-17). One can assume that when GOD says HIS Law is written on your heart, HE also means that the HOLY SPIRIT is right beside you guiding your words, thoughts and deeds. This is what worldly people refer to as ‘intuition’. When you have that ‘feeling’ or ‘intuition’, and it is in line with GOD’s Word or HIS Will, it is the HOLY SPIRIT talking to you. JESUS says in John 14: 26,
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you (NIV).
Thus, GOD has written HIS Law on the tablets of your heart. GOD has placed HIS Law in your mind. HIS Law is no longer only found in the Bible. You can find HIS Law in your heart, by the Inspiration of the Awesome HOLY SPIRIT. Therefore, you have no excuse for sin. GOD has laid HIS Law right in your heart.
Jeremiah 31:33 also buttresses the fact that even if an act or thought is not expressly prohibited in the Bible, it does not mean it is not sinful. Thus, you need to live according to the Leading or Guidance of the HOLY SPIRIT. This is the only way to live an unspotted life on earth (James 1: 27). Paul had this in mind when he said that those who are led by the HOLY SPIRIT are indeed the Sons of GOD (Rom. 8: 14).
How do you know the HOLY SPIRIT is speaking to you? By the Spirit of Discernment or Divine Wisdom. And this is a special gift given by the HOLY SPIRIT (1 Corinthians 12: 10). Those who are spiritually sensitive have no problem in discerning between the HOLY SPIRIT and an evil spirit. However, those who are still growing in CHRIST may struggle to know when the LORD is speaking to them. Sometimes, you know the SPIRIT of GOD is speaking when you have that ‘gut feeling’ that a thought or course or path is the right one. At other times, you may hear GOD clearly, so it’s beyond a mere ‘feeling’. This is why when bad things happen sometimes, you hear people say they had a ‘feeling’ or ‘haunch’ or ‘instinct’ that what happened was going to happen. However, they did not reconcile themselves with such possibility. Then, when the unwanted result happened, they blame themselves.
There are times that the SPIRIT of GOD tells you to do something you may find unpleasant. However, the commandments of GOD are not grievous or burdensome (1 John 5: 3). But, these things happen, hey! Therefore, the ‘thought’ that directs you to do something that is right, in line with GOD’s Word, albeit unpleasant, is the HOLY SPIRIT speaking.
Besides, the ‘gentle spirit’ that speaks to you is the SPIRIT of GOD. HE does not shout or try to gain your attention. In fact, once you ignore HIM, HE does not disturb you again. Unlike the devil who ‘shouts’ when he speaks. The voice of the devil gives you 101 reasons why you have to do or not do something. None of these reasons are Word-based or love-based, though. The voice keeps ‘shouting’ until you capitulate to the devil’s demands. This is why when people discuss their horrible experiences, they say they heard two voices in their mind. The one was soft and gentle. The other was so loud, so convincing, they thought it was the right voice. It turned out not to be right. This is why it pays to just calm down, take a deep breath, and figure out the right step to take with the help of the HOLY SPIRIT. In fact, you can only hear the HOLY SPIRIT speak when you are quiet in mind and spirit. When you are ready to listen to some advice. When you are not pig-headed or stubborn or ready to jump to any conclusion. This is when you actually get the Voice and Instruction of the HOLY SPIRIT.
Finally, hearing GOD is difficult, considering the fact that you sometimes have to make split-second decisions when your emotions are in a turmoil or when you are in a very noisy place. And you cannot hear the HOLY SPIRIT where and when it is noisy. Yet, GOD can help you if you just calm down and listen. The next time you are not sure or undecided or at a crossroad, just listen, and you will hear GOD speak to you. Never jump into conclusion. All that glitters is not gold, and you should not judge a book by its cover! Furthermore, meditation is very good. I mean meditation on the Word and GOD’s Promises. The more you study GODs’ Word, the more of GOD you have in you and the easier it is to hear the HOLY SPIRIT. In conclusion, GOD says in Ezekiel 36: 26-
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh [in other words a corrigible or malleable heart] (NIV- emphasis mine).
May the LORD bless the study of HIS Awesome Word in JESUS’ Name!
