PRAYER IS THE KEY LUKE 6: 12-19

prayer is teh key

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD 🙂

Luke 6:12-19King James Version (KJV)

12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. 13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles; 14 Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew, 15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes, 16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor. 17 And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; 18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed. 19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.

What did this Scripture mean when it was written?

In the Scripture above, JESUS was just starting out on HIS Ministry. HE thus had to make the big decision of who to pick as HIS Disciples. However, even if praying all night seemed to be a regular practice of JESUS, HE also knew that GOD the Father’s Guidance was necessary, so HE prayed all night, and then picked HIS Disciples. HIS disciple candidates turned out well (even though Judas betrayed HIM – that was already prophesied by Isaiah). And then you see that from verses 17-19, JESUS was filled with so much power that people with all sorts of diseases came to be healed and made whole. HE was literally overflowing with virtue, and everyone who came to HIM for healing was healed. Praise GOD!

What is the timeless truth behind what God is saying?

This Scripture has some lessons to teach, apart from the fact that it tells us JESUS prayed all night and so on. There is that popular song that goes:

Prayer is the Key; Prayer is the Key;

Prayer is the Master Key;

JESUS started with Prayer and ended with Prayer;

Prayer is the Master Key

Indeed, Prayer is the Key. There are many Scriptures where JESUS counsels us to ask the Father and we shall receive what we ask for (Matthew 7: 7-8; John 14: 13-14; etc). Besides, did you notice the time that JESUS rose to pray? At night or before day break! This was the time HE normally rose to pray: HE prayed before HIS Baptism in the HOLY SPIRIT and before beginning HIS Ministry (Luke 3: 21-22); HE rose early in the morning before daybreak and went to a solitary place and prayed (Mark 1: 35); and just before HE was taken away to be tortured and crucified, HE prayed in what has to be in the early hours of the morning (Mark 14: 32-42), etc. finally, JESUS was a Man of Prayer, despite the fact that HE is GOD HIMSELF who was living in the form of a man on earth. I think JESUS prayed so much, and even taught us how to pray (Matthew 6: 9-13), so that we can emulate the attitude of praying.

More-Prayer-warriors-are-needed

How does it apply to me now?

‘A prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian. No man is greater than his prayer life. A Christian is greatest on his knees.’ Pastor Daniel Olukoya. There is no truer statement in this context, in my opinion. As a Christian, in order to spiritually recharge, to receive strength, to receive Divine Direction (Psalm 32: 8), to receive Wisdom (James 1: 5), to be successful in all your endeavors, prayer is the key. As Paul implores us to do, let’s: ‘16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you’ (1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18 ESV).

One other thing we should emulate as Christians is the habit of praying at Midnight or praying before daybreak. I understand that people from Pentecostal backgrounds may understand and agree with the idea of praying at midnight, than people from more orthodox backgrounds. That’s fine. As long as you pray regularly, that’s what matters.

As I illustrated above, JESUS usually prayed at midnight and before daybreak. I don’t know what you are thinking, but if JESUS usually did something while HE was on earth, it is a sign we should emulate the same practice. Why is midnight prayer crucial?

  • It is quieter. You would usually find a solitary place at midnight. David said, ‘Early will I seek [HIM] (Psalm 63: 1 KJV)’.
  • It is the best time to receive Wisdom and Divine Direction from GOD. David said ‘I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel; my reins also instruct me in the night seasons (Psalm 16: 7 KJV).
  • It is the best time to receive a Divine Visitation from GOD. David also says ‘Thou hast proved mine heart; Thou hast visited me in the night; Thou hast tried me and shall find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress (Psalm 17: 3)’. From my personal experience, I have it on authority that miracles happen at midnight.
  • Intense spiritual activities go on at midnight. Demonic powers are in full operation during the night and that is the best time to confront and conquer by the Power of the HOLY GHOST. David prays, ‘You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day…(Psalm 91: 5 NIV)’.
  • Finally, remember to pray in the SPIRIT as well: ‘Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints (Romans 8: 26 KJV)’.

Microsoft Word - Document1

In conclusion, this hymn shows us why we should always be prayerful, like no other words can:

What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer

Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised
Thou wilt all our burdens bear;
May we ever, Lord, be bringing
All to Thee in earnest prayer.

Soon in glory bright, unclouded,
There will be no need for prayer—
Rapture, praise, and endless worship
Will be our sweet portion there.

ZECHARIAH 4: 6 THIS IS THE WORD OF THE LORD UNTO ZERUBBABEL, SAYING, NOT BY MIGHT, NOR BY POWER, BUT BY MY SPIRIT, SAITH THE LORD OF HOSTS

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD🙂

all-you-need-is-god-2

So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:
‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts (Zechariah 4: 6 NKJV).

Today, we will be looking at Zechariah 4: 6, where an Angel of GOD tells Zechariah that GOD is saying, you cannot do it by might or by your power, but only by the HOLY SPIRIT.

We live in a world that hardly believes in GOD anymore. So, people are encouraged to work hard, do their best and succeed. That’s great advice, but there is always emphasis on ‘you can do it yourself; there’s no one up there who can change things’. So, many people today find it hard to believe that GOD can do anything for them or intervene on their behalf, because ‘why should GOD care?’. But, GOD does care – HE will never leave or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31: 6).

However, this is the Word of the LORD: ‘not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit’. Zechariah 4: 6 is pretty straight-forward. Nothing can be achieved by might, by power, but only by the HOLY SPIRIT. Why? The HOLY SPIRIT is the Power of GOD, and is the Power that empowers men to do great things. In Acts 6: 8, JESUS says:

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (KJV).

The HOLY SPIRIT also speaks to HIS People and guides them (2 Peter 1: 21; 1 Kings 19: 11-12). Men have achieved great things by the Help of the HOLY SPIRIT, and we in this generation cannot be an exception! Zechariah 4: 6 and John 15: 5 clearly destroy those theories and myths that claim that GOD is not involved in the affairs of men.

8ad0864f27c424a95b38d92b8bdf0921.jpg

Essentially, you cannot achieve anything by your might or power, but only by the HOLY SPIRIT’s Help. Even Solomon who did not know much about the HOLY SPIRIT says in Ecclesiastes 9: 11:

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

What Solomon referred to as time and chance – Christians would call it Divine Favor. However, the point is your effort can produce much more if you are led by the HOLY SPIRIT. JESUS echoed this point when HE says in John 15: 5:

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing (NIV).

aaeaaqaaaaaaaaejaaaajde5zwjjogqxltk1mdctndfimc1hyzk4lwjlmdhkn2mymtk0oa

Have you ever tried to do something so hard, and you still failed? Or made so much effort, but it all went to waste? Well, when you have the Power of the HOLY SPIRIT in you, you will succeed in whatever you are doing, unless it is not GOD’s Will. Isaiah 59: 1 says:

Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear (NIV).

Thus, GOD has the Power to do all things, and only by HIS SPIRIT can you achieve anything.

JESUS is GOD (John 10: 30), yet HE did nothing by HIMSELF (JESUS is GOD the Son – one Personality of GOD, yet HE did nothing by HIMSELF):

So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does (John 5: 19 NIV).

This has mostly been my experience: when I try doing something by relying on just my power or working hard, things do not go as planned. But, if I don’t stress too much, but just place my hope in GOD that everything will go well, things go better than I planned. So, when I want something so bad, I remind myself that it can only come by GOD’s Power, and try not to get excited about doing it on my own. Rather, I’d pray and let the HOLY SPIRIT lead me in what I should do.

2761731.jpg

In conclusion, when Paul says, ‘I can do all things through him who strengthens me (Philippians 4: 13 NIV)’, who do you think he was talking about? The HOLY SPIRIT of course! And when you are filled with the HOLY SPIRIT, you will be an amazing mystery unto others, as JESUS illustrates in John 3: 8:

The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit (NIV).

GOD bless you and have a blessed weekend ❤.

MATTHEW 11:28 COME TO ME, ALL WHO LABOR AND ARE HEAVY LADEN, AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD🙂

Today, we will be looking at Matthew 11: 28 where JESUS tells us to come to HIM and HE will give us rest.

rest

STRESS. STRESS. STRESS.

This is a word that is familiar to everyone in different stages of life. There is the good stress and the bad stress (which I think is more prevalent in this generation than the latter). Good stress is good as its name suggests because it makes you work to achieve important goals and get things done. If there is no pressure sometimes, you won’t get anything done. However, when stress becomes too much, it becomes bad stress.

There are just so many things that stress one out these days. Some causes of stress include self-centeredness, arrogance, aggression, low self-esteem, looks, food, fear of failure, worry about bills, pleasing people and the world, technology, uncertainty about the future, perfectionism, desire to be all  do all, etc. The list seems endless. Stress just seems to be available regularly. On reflection recently, I realized that I have been stressed out 80% of the time, my whole life. I have perfectionist predispositions so I am usually worried about everything being perfect just the way I want it to be. But, this is not realistic as y’all know.

THE GOOD NEWS however, is that GOD has promised you rest as long as you come to HIM ready to exchange your heavy yoke with HIS lighter yoke (Matthew 11: 30). What this basically means is that GOD is going to share your burdens with you. So, if you are ready to give up control to GOD, what you get in exchange is rest.

rest-2

As the Psalmist says, rest can only be found in GOD alone (Psalm 62: 5).Sometimes things may seem beyond your control or may not have turned out exactly as you planned. But fear not, for the LORD is with you; do not be sad or dismayed as you have the only Living Almighty GOD as your Heavenly Father. HE will strengthen and help you and uphold you with HIS Awesome Right Hand (Isaiah 41: 10). Two other verses of Scripture that provide reassurance of GOD being with you are:

The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you (Psalm 32: 8 NLT).

29 You, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light. 30 With your help I can advance against a troop[a]; with my God I can scale a wall (2 Samuel 22: 29-30 NIV).

These Scriptures are definitely the ones that saw me through college and some of the most stressful times of my life. And every time, I had to remind myself that GOD is in control, so all I had to do was praise HIM and realize that it shall be well with me:

10 “Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them, For they shall eat the fruit of their doings (Isaiah 3: 10 NKJV).

wpid-wp-1409727487009

Finally, you are just human and you are not perfect. Only GOD is. This is why they say, ‘Do your best and leave the rest to GOD’. Things happen, things change, but GOD is Constant and Faithful. I usually say HE is too Faithful to fail. Roll your burdens to the HOLY SPIRIT; and let HIM give you peace. Stress and worry are really not worth it. Besides, JESUS says in Matthew 11: 29,

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls (NIV).

Thus, some humility and gentleness also would go a long way in giving you peace, and helping you live a de-stressed life.

GOD bless you and Peace <3.

MATTHEW 14: 28-31 DISTRACTIONS

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD🙂

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me! 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Last time, we looked at some of the physical distractions that divert people away from the goal of fulfilling their destinies. Today, we will be looking at why it is essential to avoid these distractions. May you be blessed as you read this in JESUS’ Name.

As we have seen, getting distracted is easier than staying on track. Being lazy is easier than being dedicated. But, it is essential to stay on track and be dedicated to the Call of GOD for your life on earth – in other words, your purpose on earth. There is a very interesting passage of the Bible that illustrates this point well. In Matthew 14: 28-31 (NIV):

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Peter asked JESUS to tell him to walk on the water towards HIM – that took a bit of courage in my opinion. And JESUS says, ‘Come’. Note that he actually started walking on the water, until he saw the wind, became afraid and began to sink. If he had kept his eyes focused on JESUS, and refused to be distracted by the wind, he would have continued walking on the water towards JESUS without sinking. Thus, doubt can be a big distraction.

I don’t know if you have ever engaged in stunt games like walking on a thin rope or stick high in the air. The first rule of the game is that you must look straight ahead and not look down. The moment you look down, you are going to fall. So, the same principle applies in life – life is taking a risk, daring to dream, reaching out to achieve your purpose on earth. This is why you must keep your eyes straight on the Person who created you, gave you life, and gave you that Purpose. The moment you let yourself be distracted by the wind or troubles of life, you fall. May GOD help us in JESUS Name!

a896e5196075e7d4ce98e8519d7be32e

Speaking of focusing on your Creator who have you life and Purpose, you should focus on GOD HIMSELF, not on your church or pastor or church activities just for show. If you buy a mechanical thing, like a blender collapsible bed or something that must be set up before you can use it, but you cannot figure it out, you call the manufacturer or the shop you bought it from, right? This is why your focus should be solely on your Creator.  It is very easy to fall into this trap like Martha did:

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” 41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her (Luke 10: 38 -42).”

In JESUS’s Opinion, it was OK to prepare food to entertain HIM. That was essentially Kingdom Service. But, it should not be at the expense of your hearing the Word of GOD, and your spiritual growth! It is possible to get distracted by Christian projects and doing things ‘for GOD’, that you stop spending quite time with GOD in prayer, in the Word, and lose your zeal for HIM. JESUS alludes to this in Revelation 2: 3-4 when HE says:

3 You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. 4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first (NIV).

This is why it is not a good idea to be doing ‘Kingdom Service’ while the sermon is going on at church, unless there is another service you can attend where you will pay full attention to it. So, when you put your focus on GOD, it must be solely on HIM, so that HE can lead and instruct you in the way you should go, and guide and watch over you (Psalm 32: 8).

784993776f1e2f10d58fdf58c794709a

Finally, all that glitters is not gold. Somethings look so attractive, but they are not GOD’s Will for your life and destiny. This is where the Guidance of the HOLY SPIRIT comes in, to guide and lead you in the way that you should go (Psalm 32: 8). Paul speaks of those things that are good but are not necessarily beneficial and some of these distractions are like that:

“I have the right to do anything,” you say–but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”–but not everything is constructive (1 Corinthians 10: 23 NIV).

It is crucial to be vigilant and sober because the devil walks about as a roaring lion seeking whom to devour (1 Peter 5: 8), and likes to throw things in your path that will distract you from where you are going. So, submit to GOD; resist the devil and he will flee from you (James 4: 7).

LUKE 9: 62 DISTRACTIONS

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD 🙂

“Anyone who lets himself be distracted from the work I plan for him is not fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62 TLB).

Today I just want to share something about distractions that I think prevent people from fulfilling GOD’s Plan for their lives.

There are two types of distractions: physical distractions and satanic distractions. Physical distractions are those that are of a physical nature and those you just have to make up your mind to let go. Satanic distractions on the other hand are those that are of a spiritual nature, and require that you be spiritually vigilant and prayerful to avoid. This a series that will have four parts and I hope you will be blessed as we walk through the distractions that stand in the way of fulfilling GOD’s Plan together.

It is such a great privilege to be a Christian, and I wonder sometimes how my life would have been if I am not Christian. I would not have been alive today, I would not have been where I am now, I would have been very depressed and sad, and I would have missed out on so much of life. Running the race of destiny fulfilment is a tough one, but it takes the Grace of GOD and spiritual vigilance (being watchful and prayerful) to conquer the plans of the enemy. GOD is the Driver of the Car of your destiny; the Captain of the Ship of your destiny. But, when you start to take over this role from GOD or you stop following HIM, you lose sight of the Goal, and you end up in sin, depression, spiritual death, missed blessings, among other bad things.

distractions-1

When you lose sight of GOD – your Captain, fear and worry start to trouble you. GOD has promised that HE will lead and guide you in the Way that you should go (Psalm 32: 8). But, if you refuse to let HIM guide you, you will go the wrong way and get lost. That will not be your portion in JESUS’ Name. Paul says:

I’m saying this for your benefit, not to restrict you. I’m showing you how to live a noble life of devotion to the Lord without being distracted by other things (1 Corinthians 7: 35 GOD’S WORD Translation).

These are some of the physical distractions that I’ve found could be distracting one from GOD’s Plan. Anyone or all of them could be familiar to you. They include:

  1. People’s and worldly expectations. In relation to this, note the following Scriptures:  1 John 2: 15: 15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father[a] is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world (NIV) and Romans 12: 2: 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will (NIV).
  2. Fear of taking the wrong step or fear in general.
  3. Selfishness or self-centredness.
  4. Work (sometimes).
  5. Worry. JESUS says in Mark 4: 19 (…but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful (NIV))
  6. Lack of good sleep and exercise (if you are always tired and slow, how is GOD going to use you?).
  7. The past.
  8. Envy or jealousy.
  9. Technological advances: cell phones, social networks, TV, etc.
  10. Hobbies.
  11. Relationships (sometimes).

distractions

Why are these things distractions? They make you so busy you do not have time for the things that matter. Like Bible study, prayer, fasting, ministry, etc. And if you constantly let yourself get distracted, you cannot be useful in GOD’s Kingdom, because you would not be hearing from the LORD and would be too busy doing the wrong things! If you love someone, you would spend more time with them, and want to do activities they like right? The same principle applies in your relationship with GOD. Endeavor to spend more time with HIM and develop a more intimate relationship with HIM. That way, your heart will be totally closed off from worldly and satanic distractions that could destroy you.

Finally, what is the solution in relation to the distractions mentioned above: let them go. It is important to stay focused on CHRIST, the Pioneer and Perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12: 2). Some of these distractions serve as a ‘hide-away’ from problems. For instance, some people indulge in lots of food when they are worried; or they look to friends and family when they have problems. However, GOD has said that all the world should look to HIM for Salvation; there is only one GOD and no other (Isaiah 45: 22). If you look to something else or someone else for help or ‘salvation’ when you are stressed, you will be letting distractions overcome you.

GOD bless you and until next time!

ECCLESIASTES 3: 14 I KNOW THAT, WHATEVER GOD DOES, IT SHALL BE FOREVER

Welcome/Bienvenue/Shalom/Ekabo

Good day People of GOD🙂

I know that, whatever God does, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God does it, that men should fear before him (American King James Version).

Today, we will be looking at Ecclesiastes 3: 14 which says that whatever good things GOD does shall last forever, and nothing can be added to or taken away from it.

In the preceding verses, King Solomon who wrote the Book of Ecclesiastes speaks of times and seasons; and how it is GOD’s Will that every man eat the fruit of his labor. Then comes verse 14: ‘…whatever God does, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God does it, that men should fear before him (American King James Version)’.

Essentially, whatever GOD has ordained is permanent – nothing can be added to or taken away from it. If it is your appointed time for a breakthrough or prosperity, nothing can disrupt it or stand in the way of your claiming victory. I was worried about certain things and discussing them with my father last week and he quoted this Scripture. He was encouraging me that GOD has given me what I have and brought me to where I am today, and NOBODY CAN CHANGE IT. This Scripture had been my prayer point since then.

download.jpg

Where there is sugar you will see flies. Where there is breakthrough you will see enemies (so more than one enemy). That is just the way it is. If you are not armed with the Word of GOD, and ready to fight, when the enemy comes, he could take you down with him. Isaiah 59: 19 says that when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD will raise a standard. How do you get the HOLY SPIRIT on your side? By arming yourself with the Word! This is why Paul likens the Word of GOD to the Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6: 17). I was reading Rick Warren’s devotional today and he was emphasizing study of GOD’s Word as the way to build your faith. And I told myself to get real: no matter how busy I am, I have to study GOD’s Word every day, because when stuff happens, only GOD can come through for me. Not my work!

Are you at that stage where you know in your heart that GOD has ordained great things for you; but it looks as if there are so many problems? Well, that is not strange. Paul says that, ‘For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries (1 Corinthians 16: 9 KJV).’ Moreover, JESUS mentions that ‘And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force (Matthew 11: 12 KJV 2000).

Therefore, if you are going to be great or GOD has a great plan for your life and destiny, GOD’s Plan for your life will be contested. Some unnecessary problems (also known as momentary and light troubles – 2 Corinthians 4: 17) will arise. But, remember the GOD you serve, and hang on to HIS Word, and don’t give up without a fight, and you will see GOD come through for you. It is written, they who know their GOD shall do exploits (:). If you don’t know your GOD, don’t have HIS Word as a Sword to defend yourself, and your faith as a Shield, you could be lost in the momentary troubles that arise to distract you from GOD’s Plan.

The point: GOD has great things in store for you, but remember, that what HE has done is permanent. No power, agent, personality, problem, or structure can add to or subtract from GOD’s Plan for your life and destiny. May you prosper in all you lay your hands upon to do in JESUS’ Name!

Finally, is there something or someone beautiful GOD has given you? Don’t worry, for what GOD has done shall last forever; nothing can be added to it or taken away from it.

1 SAMUEL 16: 7 PEOPLE LOOK AT THE OUTWARD APPEARANCE, BUT THE LORD LOOKS AT THE HEART

tumblr_lrx969mloi1qm9otto1_500

Today we will be looking at 1 Samuel 16: 7 where GOD says to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height…’. Then GOD says, ‘The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart’.

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. PEOPLE LOOK AT THE OUTWARD APPEARANCE, BUT THE LORD LOOKS AT THE HEART (NIV).”

This verse of Scripture is very important and instructive in our world today. Looks is almost everything; people sell their looks and bodies, and most people are judged depending on how they look. Good-looking people are usually complimented and admired. Almost every magazine, newspaper, website etc, have advertisements that feature people deemed to be good-looking or sexy and are about looking good or sexy. For example, an advertisement about hairspray or hair products could feature a girl with a tiny waist in a bikini or a guy with six-pack abs.

I am not going to lie and say that looks do not matter. They do in our world. But, the good thing is they do not matter to GOD. Men look at outward appearances, but GOD looks at the heart. Moreover, do not work to comply with men’s requirements; rather work to be commended by GOD. It is the one GOD commends that is approved (2 Corinthians 10: 18:). When I was growing up, I saw how almost everyone around me worked so hard to have the kind of ‘sexy’ image projected by the media. I went through that phase myself; I almost became anorexic as a result, but thank GOD for saving me.

Thank GOD for beautiful and good-looking people. I have an eye for beauty; I appreciate it all the time. Sometimes I say, ‘Wow, GOD created that beautiful person; HE is so Awesome’. But, I am careful not to covet someone else’s looks. You know, there is beauty in variety. If we all looked the same, ‘beauty’ would not be obvious.

My message is: you are beautiful in your own special GOD-way. So-called ‘good-looking’ people always meet people even more good-looking than they are, so it’s no big deal. Everybody is beautiful in their own GOD-way. The question is: are you ready to make the best of what GOD has given you? GOD gave you something really special that nobody else has. Besides, there are strengths you have that will project you to prominence than looks would have done. Rather concentrate your energy on developing your strengths and looking your best, than coveting somebody else’s looks.

In addition, all that glitters in not gold, the saying goes. Never judge a book by its cover, they also say. Something or someone can look good outside but have venom or evil within. In high school, the good-looking people were admired, had the most friends, and boy- or girl-friends. However, I noticed that these ‘good-looking’ people were the most shallow people you could meet, and had nothing much to recommend them apart from their looks. So, I decided that although it was good to be good-looking and popular, I would rather be who I was, than those ‘good-looking’ and popular people. There is a very powerful saying in Yoruba, ‘Iwa lewa’. It means ‘Character is beauty’. Indeed character is beauty; beauty without character is useless. This is why the Bible says in Proverbs 11: 22 –

Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion (NIV).

Finally, you don’t have to look like Barbie to make an impact in life. So, be proud of your GOD-given looks and talents and make the best use out of them!
