Good day People of GOD🙂

Today, we will be looking at Matthew 11: 28 where JESUS tells us to come to HIM and HE will give us rest.

This is a word that is familiar to everyone in different stages of life. There is the good stress and the bad stress (which I think is more prevalent in this generation than the latter). Good stress is good as its name suggests because it makes you work to achieve important goals and get things done. If there is no pressure sometimes, you won’t get anything done. However, when stress becomes too much, it becomes bad stress.

There are just so many things that stress one out these days. Some causes of stress include self-centeredness, arrogance, aggression, low self-esteem, looks, food, fear of failure, worry about bills, pleasing people and the world, technology, uncertainty about the future, perfectionism, desire to be all  do all, etc. The list seems endless. Stress just seems to be available regularly. On reflection recently, I realized that I have been stressed out 80% of the time, my whole life. I have perfectionist predispositions so I am usually worried about everything being perfect just the way I want it to be. But, this is not realistic as y’all know.

THE GOOD NEWS however, is that GOD has promised you rest as long as you come to HIM ready to exchange your heavy yoke with HIS lighter yoke (Matthew 11: 30). What this basically means is that GOD is going to share your burdens with you. So, if you are ready to give up control to GOD, what you get in exchange is rest.

As the Psalmist says, rest can only be found in GOD alone (Psalm 62: 5).Sometimes things may seem beyond your control or may not have turned out exactly as you planned. But fear not, for the LORD is with you; do not be sad or dismayed as you have the only Living Almighty GOD as your Heavenly Father. HE will strengthen and help you and uphold you with HIS Awesome Right Hand (Isaiah 41: 10). Two other verses of Scripture that provide reassurance of GOD being with you are:

The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you (Psalm 32: 8 NLT).

29 You, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light. 30 With your help I can advance against a troop[a]; with my God I can scale a wall (2 Samuel 22: 29-30 NIV).

These Scriptures are definitely the ones that saw me through college and some of the most stressful times of my life. And every time, I had to remind myself that GOD is in control, so all I had to do was praise HIM and realize that it shall be well with me:

10 “Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them, For they shall eat the fruit of their doings (Isaiah 3: 10 NKJV).

Finally, you are just human and you are not perfect. Only GOD is. This is why they say, ‘Do your best and leave the rest to GOD’. Things happen, things change, but GOD is Constant and Faithful. I usually say HE is too Faithful to fail. Roll your burdens to the HOLY SPIRIT; and let HIM give you peace. Stress and worry are really not worth it. Besides, JESUS says in Matthew 11: 29,

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls (NIV).

Thus, some humility and gentleness also would go a long way in giving you peace, and helping you live a de-stressed life.

GOD bless you and Peace <3.

May the LORD bless the study of HIS Awesome Word in JESUS’ Name!

Good day People of GOD.

Today we will be looking at Psalm 46: 10, where GOD says you should just let go, and let HIM be GOD.

Let go of your concerns! Then you will know that I am God. I rule the nations. I rule the earth (GW).

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth (KJV).

Be still and know (recognize, understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth (AMP).

This is one Scripture I am convinced GOD put in the Bible for me. This Scripture speaks directly to me. Maybe it speaks to you also. So that makes the two (or lot) of us. GOD is essentially saying that you should cede control to HIM, and let HIM be GOD.

Ceding or relinquishing control used to be a hard thing for me. I am a very passionate person, but, I like to be independent, without having to rely on anyone for help. I am opinionated and very determined. I also have perfectionist tendencies. Basically, I like to follow my own rules. But, over the years I have learnt that you cannot live life rigidly. Moreover, the race is never to the swift; and the battle is never to the strong. Thus, being in control always cannot last long, because one day that control will snap and you will seriously mess things up. Most importantly, I have learnt that not only is it exhausting trying always to be in control or be perfect, it is also foolish. Sometimes, it is OK to let go so you can win. Trying to be in control always can be EXTREMELY STRESSFUL. I have been there, I tell you, and it is not fun.

How do you let go? First, you tell GOD that, ‘LORD, I totally surrender to you. I surrender myself, my personality, my desires, my flesh and my spirit unto YOU so that I can be moulded into what You want me to be.’  Secondly, you make up your mind that GOD is in control now, so you are going to just go along with what HE says. This is the way to truly cede control to GOD. Now, why is it so crucial to cede all control to GOD?

  • Because GOD instructs you to: ‘Let go of your concerns! Then you will know that I am God (Psalm 46: 10 GW)’. Moreover, Psalm 37: 7 admonishes us to surrender ourselves to GOD and wait patiently. It is good and healthy to obey this commandment. Therefore, rather than ask, ‘Why’ all the time, surrender yourself to GOD. Even Rick Warren once said that surrender is the ultimate expression of faith.
  • Because it is healthier and safer. When you cede control to GOD, you are more cheerful and healthier. This is why Solomon says, ‘A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones (Proverbs 17: 22 KJV).’
  • It prevents depression. Depression results from a state of hopelessness; when you think there is absolutely nothing you can do, and no way out. But when you cede control to GOD, and let HIM be GOD, you have more faith that everything will work out well. You can save yourself years of heartache if you just totally surrender to GOD. I can relate to this from personal experience, and this is why Proverbs 3: 5-6 says:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV).

  • It is EXTREMELY EXHAUSTING to always want to be in control. You are human. You have certain limitations. You cannot get everything right. Thus, trying to be in control always and getting everything perfectly right, is deliberately going against your human imperfect nature, and will only lead to heartache and possibly disaster. Rather cede control to GOD, and let the HOLY SPIRIT lead you in all things because you can do nothing apart from HIM. This is why JESUS says,

I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing (John 15: 5 AMP).

I am not perfect, and I don’t pretend to be. But, there are certain mistakes I made recently, and over the years, that I would have avoided (along with the baggage and heartache that came with it) if I had just given all control to GOD, been still, and just allowed the HOLY SPIRIT to lead me. The HOLY SPIRIT would not lead you until you give HIM the chance to. Therefore, you must be still, for the HOLY SPIRIT to lead you and for you to even hear HIS Soft Gentle Voice (1 Kings 19: 12), in the first place.

While I was growing up, and until very recently, my greatest wish used to be to fit in. Looking back now, it is funny to think about it. Unfortunately, it’s true. Yet, when I worked so hard to fit in or please people, it never worked out. But when I was not particularly focused on social acceptance in a certain environment, I seemed to get it more than I thought possible.

In addition, at school, I was trying so hard to get certain grades, but I was doing it the wrong way. I had no friends, I was too rigid, I was trying too hard to be the perfect student. Well, it’s obvious that did not work out. Then, I discovered Psalm 32: 8 where GOD says, ‘I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you [who are willing to learn] with My eye upon you (AMP)’ and 2 Samuel 22: 29-30 where David says of GOD,

29 You, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light. 30 With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall (NIV).

From that point I discovered that good grades lie in GOD’s Hands, not in my brain. Some people may disagree, but the HOLY SPIRIT actually taught me to study smart (not just hard) and work smart. And that is where the difference lies.

There are many instances where people in the Bible had serious problems, but they had faith in GOD, they were still, and GOD took control. For instance, in 2 Chronicles 20, the Israelites were faced with the Amalekite and Moabite Armies. This was a battle they did not prepare for, and the Israelites could have been destroyed if they could not fight well. However, rather than fret or complain or get upset, they obeyed the instruction of the prophet, they praised GOD and were still. Then GOD intervened. Without raising a finger, GOD arose, and fought for them- the armies helped destroy themselves (verses 22-25).

Moreover, when JESUS was faced with 5000 hungry men, neither HIMSELF nor HIS Disciples complained. HE prayed over the food, and it multiplied to the point that it could feed 5000 men (including their wives and children- thus, about 12 000 people). And all JESUS did was give thanks (Matthew 14: 13-21).

Finally, it is worth it to cede all control to GOD. And I promise you that this is the best decision you can make, after giving your life to CHRIST! People pray the Serenity Prayer which goes as follows:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen.

‘Cast your burden upon the LORD and HE shall sustain thee: HE shall never suffer the righteous to be moved (Psalm 55: 22 KJV).’

JESUS echoed this point when HE said ‘DO NOT WORRY’, because by worrying you cannot add another hour to your life or make things better (Matthew 6: 25-34).

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow, reap, or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? (Matthew 6: 25-27 NIV)

Apostle Peter also admonishes us to cast our cares upon the LORD, because HE CARES (1 Peter 5: 7).

You cannot make things better yourself. You have no power to fix wrong things. ALL the Power and Glory belongs to GOD. Therefore, Awesome GOD has the exclusive jurisdiction to fix things.  Why should you just leave things in Awesome GOD’s Capable Hands and maintain you peace?

  1. When you are trying to fix things, you worry a lot. You probably even lose your sleep, or eat less, or think too much about something. You ignore important aspects of your life or neglect to do some important things all because you are worried. Last time I checked, worrying fixes nothing. Leave GOD to Handle the rest, after you have done your best.
  2. When you worry a lot, you hardly praise GOD or smile. And praising GOD is the way to inviting GOD to take over stubborn matters in your life and destroy the things that are taking away your peace (Psalm 149: 1-7). JESUS is the Prince of Peace, and HE brought you Peace (Isaiah 9: 6); nobody or nothing can take it away unless you let them.
  3. GOD expresses warns you not to worry. Why? You cannot by worrying add a day to your life. The lilies in the fields don’t worry; and yet they are clothed with beauty. The birds of the air don’t worry, yet they are fed on a daily basis (Matthew 6: 26; 28). The analogy is perfect. Because you are a human being, with superior intelligence, and made in GOD’s Image, you tend to think you can fix things and take the glory in the end. Nah. ALL GLORY BELONGS TO GOD (Galatians 1: 5).
  4. When you worry, you take your matter out of GOD’s Awesomely Capable Hands. GOD is not a fussy Person. The moment you think you can do something without him, rely on the help of another man, or handle things your own way or have a Plan B, you take things out of HIS Capable Hands. And GOD will leave you for a time; HE’s a Faithful Father and GOD. HE wouldn’t want you to get you to get hurt permanently.

May the LORD bless the study of HIS Word in JESUS’ Name!
